What do you call bfing in your family? - Page 2

My son asks to "nuh see! nuh seeee!" This afternoon, dh was entertaining ds while I was on the computer. When he was ready for his nap, ds picked up the nursing pillow and trotted off to look for me. It really was cute - ds lugging this big pillow calling "nuh see!"

Sometimes he'll stop nursing to point to my nipple and say "mahk" for milk.

DD (17mos now) calls it "ny-ny" which is similar to the chinese word for milk. I have been teaching her how to sign for it, and sometimes she does the right sign, other times it's just a clenched little hand that she holds up high to make sure I see it! No matter how she indicates she wants to nurse, there is always a little mischievious smile she gives me--it's really cute!

Too cute you all! My kids have all had different ways of asking, my first son would say "nuhs" like he was trying to say "nurse" but his own little way. #2 called it "moy", she was trying to say MORE, I would always ask her between sides "do you want more?" so she picked up on the "more". #3 didn't really ask, he would just get in my lap and scooch down into the nursing position with a little grin on his face and pat my chest. #4 seems to respond to "nursies" which her older brother (#3) now calls it. He is always asking her "do you want nursies?" Now that she is almost 14 months she will run to me, get in position and press her face into my chest, look up at me and laugh, stick her hand down my shirt, or try to lift it. I can't wait to hear her word for it when she starts talking.

My 2 yo calls it nurse. "Nurse me Mommy." He calls my breasts nurses, as did my dd. In the the middle of the night , he might say, "where's my nurse? Oh, there's my nurse." He is very verbal. One day, he said, I want my nursey nursey. He was being silly. None of us ever call it that! It is funny what they come up with. Before my dd was 2, she would call it ma for more. And as a little one, I called it side, as in my mom asking do I want the other side.

Okay, it I already answered this, please just blame it on pg brain.

We call it Juice. When she was little, we called it Momma Juice - a friend of mine calls Cows milk, Cow Juice, and explained to her adopted daughter that MaryRose was having Momma Juice; and well it stuck.

Now she yells JUICE - no one is the wiser.

my little guy called it nurse to start(well, he signed for it first, the sign for milk), then nursie, now its nursiepursie (said real fast as if its one word) this came from me actually. one day he was nursing and i said, too bad your name isnt pursie, then we could call you nursie pursie. well, he thougth it was a good idea bc it stuck and thats what he calls it now.

he is so funny. and yes, he says it anywhere he wants, and no, i dont care, lol!

bailey calls them "na-nas", i have always called them this. i just figured other kids say ba-ba early on for bottle, so why couldn't my kid say na-na for her nursies? So it stuck, and luckly no one is the wiser. in public people think she is saying ma-ma, but in all realtiy she is saying na-na. at the zoo the other day she kept asking for na-nas and i said no, cause i was with my mil and sil, who think bf past just a few months is sick and disgusting, and since i said no she stood up and screamed "MA-MA NA-NAS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!" that was the first time she ever said please. it was so cute. my mil was like, what does she want? i lied, and said she was tired, walked away and nursed her, and she was happy. i just love the phrase na-nas!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Mamas
This is so embarrassing! Usually 2 yo ds, Sky, says, "Want milkies, Mama" and softly touches my chest, but about a month ago we were wrestling (well, he was tackling me!) and one of his elbows landed (OW!) and I yelled, "My titty!" So now he has a new, fun word to yell out in public when he wants to nurse! And don't try to tell him not to say something, that just makes him say it louder! Needless to say, my husband finds this very humorous!

Gentle, mama to Sky Ryan born 3/12/01

What a sweet thread!
I have always just asked my kids if they wanted to nurse or if they wanted/needed some milk. Ds#2 would just sort of pat me and slide into position and maybe say "mil" for milk. My dd says "mum, mum" and will sometimes press her face into my chest. I will say to her "do you want some milk?" and she will get this HUGE grin on her face and chant "mum, mum" and pat me and sometimes do this cute, deep, gutteral giggle. I'm pretty sure all that means "YES!"

When ds was first born, dh would always ask if he wanted "boobie" and my mom would just get so upset!!LOL She felt it was vulgar to say that....whatever!! But I decided that I didnt want a toddler yelling "boobie!!!" at the top of his lungs in the grocery store and decided to just call it "milk". He has recently really responded to me saying it and gets a big grin on his face and comes running when I ask, " DO you want milk?" He has also just recently ( ds is 14 months) started asking for it by patting my chest ever so gently ( it is so precious) and going "huh?" totally inflecting his voice when he says it. He sometimes pats his belly. And oh, I nurse him down for all of his naps and bedtime so when I say , "let's go ni ni" he will pat my chest or his!! I wouldnt be surprised if he calls it ni ni when he starts talking more.

- when I was pregnant, I knew I would bf, but I never thought I would be bfing a child that talks. I comment I always heard was when they can ask for it, they are too old!! Now that i am a nursing mother I know that there is no corelation between language and weaning!! And I think its cute that he can ask me for his milk!!!

My DS knows what I mean when I ask him, "Would you like to nurse?" He has understood since 6 months or so old. He is 13 months now and I suppose at some point he will learn to say nurse, or something like it. I considered saying "Breastfeed" but then I thought society would be a bit harder on him. I didn't want him ever absorbing negative feelings about what he was doing that was so positive and healthy.

And on a side note, I would just like to say I have been dissapointed in many people... my Doctor included... who have tried to encourage me to ween and use formula or worse, bovine milk. Can you spell.. N ... O ?

When dd was born, dh would say that she wanted "chow" whenever she'd go to nurse, so breastmilk became "chow." For at least a half a year now, dd, 23 months, asks for "mnummy chow now," gaining emphaticness based on how hungry/tired she is (dunno where"mnummy" came from, but there it is, and everything tasty is called "mnummy.") Like most toddlers, dd certainly understands the concept of "now."

She also talks about "mama milk," but usually only before she decides she wants to squeeze my nipple and milk me like a cow. Charming. :

We started out trying to use the phrase "would you like to nurse?" thinking DD would come up with her own phrase adapted from "nurse". She did go through that polite phase where she would say "go nurse" or "nurse please" - but then it developed into something more urgent and it would be "nur nur"

BUT

Second part of the story. We use the phrase "fait doh-doh" for sleep, after my French Canadian heritage and my husbands New Orleans upbringing. So, after countless times of DD hearing the phrase "go doh-doh" while she nursed to sleep at a nap or night-time, she thought nursing was called "doh-doh". She sometimes still says "nur" or "noh-doh". But usally she points at my chest or hers and says "Doh-Doh"

Of course, lately she just says "Jzee-Jzee" all the time and it is supposed to mean everything.

When my middle ds was nursing he would ask for bobo. Nicholas still hasn't come up with a word. He usually beats on my chest, grabs my hand to take me to the big chair or if I am not paying attention will say "eat me".

We have always asked Miller if he wants to nurse. Now (and for quite some time) at age 23 months he asks "nursie pease". its darling and I never say no!

He calls my breasts nursies as well. he will point to his nipples and say "my nursies" and then point to my chest and say "mama's nursies".

We've always said "num nums" I'm not really sure why. If I ask her if she wants num nums she smiles and runs over to me. Or if she wants it she will point to them.

My daughter used to sign for it and then she started out saying "hungry" and then it deteriorated to "oogies" lol. So that's what she said when she wanted to nurse. Rane just signs or pats me frantically on the breast.
