What an awesome interview, thanks! I've always really liked Will Smith--he seemed to me like the kind of guy who isn't afraid to go against the crowd. That interview proves that. Too bad he and his wife aren't doing the homeschooling themselves (but I guess the life of a movie actor is pretty busy!), but it's nice to hear that his kids are getting a good eduation.

I've heard them mention this before, and what I really liked about it was that they don't homeschool only because of their crazy schedules. They have mentioned that they homeschool because they don't like the atmosphere and the education that is our current school system.

Slightly OT: It seems like I always love what they have to say. I remember Jada Smith being asked by Oprah about her embracing Will's ex wife as part of their family, and her response was along the lines of "There is no way for me to accept the child while rejecting the mother - his mother is 1/2 of who he is." Coming from divorced parents who spent 10 years not speaking and disparaging each other, it brought tears to my eyes to hear that someone else gets this.

Dh was telling me about this after reading it during a delay at work. Some more stuff to love about Mr. Smith... aka the Hotness.

I haven't liked him since he put pro spanking lyrics in a song. Possibly I heard this from him elsewhere too.

Still, I'm glad that they are homeschooling!

That's great quote! I love this one too, infact it's where I stand on HS.

"Traditional education is based on facts and figures and passing tests -- not on a comprehension of the material and its application to your life."

Yea, I wasn't thrilled with that line in the song either. (It's in his song "Just the Two of Us"- and he says "I will test that butt if you cut out of line" regarding his son.) The rest of the song is really beautiful though. Mixed bag I guess. I wonder if he and Jada are really alright with spanking?

You tell 'em honey. You tell 'em.

I was just saying this on another board.
