I just put the castor oil on my face. A thin layer so that it doesn't get in my eyes or mouth. It's not dangerous (though I dunno for sure about eyes) but that still would be icky. I wait awhile, and then I wash it off with soap.

If you massage it on, sometimes that alone pushes out blackheads, but not a huge amount.

I usually soak in a nice bath in the meantime, but that wouldn't be necessary.

It's similar to the oil cleansing method or OCM, but easier for me.

Wait- jojoba is good for oily skin and blackheads?

I have blackheads on my nose too and have really hit a brick wall with them (use honey, acv). I have a huge fear of putting anythign oily feeling on my face, even if it's good for it! I've been using lubriderm or a little shea butter as a moisturizer, b/c I am dry this winter outside of my t-zone. But I will try anything! When I apply jojoba to my hands though, it stays super oily. How is it good for blocked pores?

thank you sphinxie! i've always wanted a reason to buy castor oil, to see why people used to threaten their kids with it.

Okay I looked up jojoba and see how it's benefits are pretty straight forward (though it's still almost hard for me to put something oily onto my nose!)
But I have to say, this stuff is AMAZING. I don't know if it's my imagination or what, but I swear it seems like my pores shrunk within 24 hours of using the stuff. It soaks right in and is wonderful. Is there some reason not to use this daily as a moisturizer after washing with honey? I love it!

Also, does it go bad at all? It seems fine, but I have had it for uh, a long time.

Are you putting it right on your nose? I bought some last night and I put it on, panicked and then wiped it off....

Yep, just about a tsp. in my hand and then I rubbed it in gently all over, and directly on my nose. It soaked right in. It felt kinda smooth and dewy for a while, but not oily. I swear my blackheads are moving out already.
From what I read it really inhibits your production of sebum, or something like that.

I bought the jojoba oil yesterday, used it last night, and have quite a few new bumps on my face now. Is it just pulling all the gunk out or is my sking not liking it?

The oil is organic and was expensive - I hope I bought the right kind....

oh boy, I don't know. Maybe one of our resident experts will show up and advise you. But I'd give it another shot if you can. I'm not super oily anymore, just in my t-zone (actually I have been pretty dry in this winter weather with the heat cranking) but I definitely have blackhead issues on my nose. So that is oily for sure, and it looks better after using it a couple times today. No bumps. I have aura cacia jojoba. Not sure if they are all equal.

About a month ago, after reading the older OCM threads, I got so excited I went out and got castor oil (I have crazy blackheads and I am so tired of them..: ). I did it once and truly it seemed much better. But then later I was reading how some of the people who had oily skin to begin with broke out *horribly* a couple weeks after doing OCM. I just have to wonder if that method (and it's interaction with my own natural oils) can backfire after so many layers of skin growth. I have absolutely no idea if that could be true - I'm just pulling it out of my bum - but it just has me worried. From what I could surmise, oily skin did not do well with the OCM method.

Please correct me if you have experienced otherwise. Like I said, I liked castor oil when I did it, but I'm afraid of not knowing what I could be doing until it's too late. But maybe the difference is using soap to get it off.

Anyway, sorry to ramble. Just what I've been thinking. Carry on, please.

I WILL DEFEAT THE BLACKHEADS! :

You might check out Delight website. She just wrote a whole article on facial cleansing for oily skinned folk naturally. www.walkslowlylivewildly.blogspot.com

As far as I know, jojoba oil doesn't pull gunk out. It's an oil that's closest to the skin's oil, so it moisturizes your skin and your skin stops producing excess oil. It's possible though.

There's a chance your skin just isn't liking it. You could try using a smaller amount. I actually apply jojoba oil & toner (witchazel & orange floral water) at the same time, dunno if that might help. Maybe try applying it in the mornings, not evenings?

Well first our skins vary a lot. I think the people who break out from OCM are in the minority. It could be because (1) they aren't successfully removing all the oil & dirt with the hot washcloth (2) they are reacting to the particular kind of oil they bought and would do fine with a better brand (3) they are reacting to the oil generally and need to use another kind of oil or just drop OCM.

I'm not sure... but I didn't get the sense it was oily skin that predicted a breakout from OCM? It seemed a little bit unpredictable, but people with really sensitive skin did seem to react more.

I know that I would not apply straight castor oil on my face every day. I do it about once a week. It's strong stuff. I've never tried the 1:1 mix of castor oil and olive oil that is recommended for OCM. Also removing it with soap (or I guess you could saponify it with baking soda?) means there's no question of whether it's really coming off, as there is with the hot washcloth in OCM.

My reason for not doing OCM is cause I don't own any washcloths, though

I think if you hasve a few bumps I would keep using it. Just like anything else, there is an adjustment period. I would give it a few days at least. I think you'll find your skin softer than ever. I will get a few small pimples still occasionally, but it is like you can't even see (me included) them unless you get up an inch from the mirror & pull my skin taut. Because my face is so smooth. They barely show up.

Castor oil and jojoba

I have comb skin--it's really oily and dry in winter, but any moisturizer makes me break out. I've been doingf the oil cleansing method mentioned earlier in this discussion, where I massage 50/50 of each onto my face and then use a hot cloth and rinse very well, but I come out with my skin feeling great and not breaking out. I'm really suprized, I usually have a few new ones everyday and I stopped moisturizing. You ladies have a lot of great ideas, I'm really glad that I got to use a few. Thanks!

Is the washing it off part of the co facial mentioned? With the jojoba I just massage a little bit in. Now I'm 34, so maybe i need a little more moisture (I'm sure if I were still 20 this might not be so great for me) but so far it hasn't left me feeling oily at all.

If you look on drugstore.com, look up whatever jojoba oil they have, and read the comments and reviews posted by people, it seems that jojoba oil is the best thing ever! I got some b/c of it and it is a nice moisturizer but my skin is still shiny by the end of the day.

You definitely want to remove the castor oil whether via soap or hot washcloth or whatever works. It draws toxins out & picks up dirt, then you wash them away and they're gone. If you don't remove it the toxins will be absorbed, and it's possible that castor oil left on all day would be an irritant.

I have been washing my face with honey and using jojoba oil since my last post and I CANNOT believe my pores! Blackheads are almost completely gone and the pores on my cheeks (by nose) are tiny!

What do you all do for that occasional big pimple that comes around your period? I tried a BS paste and that didn't work. I've tried TTO in the past and got an ugly dry spot/scab that lasted a few weeks. I have also tried a honey mask/BS scrub.

I've heard dabbing milk of magnesia on works, but I've never yet tried it. I mostly just ignore them
