Felting kits- are they worth it?

I want to start felting, and would like a book, and all the tools etc. to begin with. Should I do a kit or just buy the things I need? I want to do toys, does anyone know of a good learn to felt toy kit?

Are you needle felting or wet felting? Kits are a very easy way to get started, you just jump in and most of what you need is there! Just buying what you need is a good choice too, though it can be a bit overwhelming if you are new to it.
