I just had to post here...in exactly 2 hours, my little guy will be 3 years old. A NURSING 3 year old!!!
For those that don't know the story, we dealt with 3 bouts of failure to thrive, 5 weeks of thrush, reflux, Celiac disease (in both of us!), and extreme low supply. At 2 months old, he completely refused the breast and screamed every single time we offered, and he would take only bottles. I pumped every couple hours for him around the clock. By 3 months old, he was finally back on the breast with a supplemental nursing system. I continued to feed him every 2-4 hours, and pumped every 4 hours around the clock.
At 12 months, I ditched the pump. At 24 months, I ditched the SNS. At 36 months, he's nursing without aids and is showing no signs of stopping!! It took him a LONG time but he finally got the hang of it and he's a pro now!
:
I'm so proud of my little guy! When I was sitting there with tears in my eyes pumping every couple hours and listening to him scream when I tried to nurse him, I never thought he'd be nursing still 3 years later!
I hope that our story...our struggles...our successes, I hope that it gives hope to someone here. I remember the days of tears and frustration and depression over the nursing problems...but in the end, the perseverance paid off for us!
