3 years!!!

I just had to post here...in exactly 2 hours, my little guy will be 3 years old. A NURSING 3 year old!!!

For those that don't know the story, we dealt with 3 bouts of failure to thrive, 5 weeks of thrush, reflux, Celiac disease (in both of us!), and extreme low supply. At 2 months old, he completely refused the breast and screamed every single time we offered, and he would take only bottles. I pumped every couple hours for him around the clock. By 3 months old, he was finally back on the breast with a supplemental nursing system. I continued to feed him every 2-4 hours, and pumped every 4 hours around the clock.

At 12 months, I ditched the pump. At 24 months, I ditched the SNS. At 36 months, he's nursing without aids and is showing no signs of stopping!! It took him a LONG time but he finally got the hang of it and he's a pro now! :

I'm so proud of my little guy! When I was sitting there with tears in my eyes pumping every couple hours and listening to him scream when I tried to nurse him, I never thought he'd be nursing still 3 years later!

I hope that our story...our struggles...our successes, I hope that it gives hope to someone here. I remember the days of tears and frustration and depression over the nursing problems...but in the end, the perseverance paid off for us!

AllyRae, isn't that just wonderful! Of course I remember your story, & how you struggled so hard to keep on with breastfeeding for months & months on end. :

I am so glad that it worked out in the end for you & your ds. I do love to read about happy ending stories from the old low-milk suppliers tribe.

This is truly encouraging news! What did you do at 12 months for milk? What did you put in the SNS? I have twins that are almost 11 mo. old and we are using the SNS due to them being hooked on it and bad LC advice. My supply took a dive. They take about 24 oz. of formula per day per baby. I am currently pumping to try and get my supply up. I only get about 2 oz. of bm per 24 hrs. I am hoping that one day the twins will take me without the SNS. I am curious what you put in the SNS at 12 mo. and how many oz. per 24 hr. period. Thanks so much!

Congrats! I just had my 4 year nursiversary with my eldest daughter. I too struggled against a lot including 13 boughts of thrush, latch difficulties, using a lact-aid for 16 months due to breast reduction surgery and many other things. But we did it! Isn't it an awesome feeling. I am now tandem nursing after reduction surgery and using the lact-aid with the baby who is 10.5 months old. Congrats to you!

Ally,

I just saw this post and wanted to say a belated CONGRATULATIONS! That truly is an amazing thing. You have a breastfeeding testimony!

I've been thinking about you lately. Haven't seen you on the Columbus Village forum and just wanted to let you know you've been on my mind.
