What to make for a baby with shantung silk?

I have a bridesmaid dress that I want to use to make something for the newlyweds' baby (due in March).

I had thought about a quilt, but am overwhelmed by the project and haven't found anyone to make it for me for a low enough cost.

Any other ideas.....something that beginner can do? Some kind of keepsake lovey or a simple wall hanging thing? Blankey? I dunno, out of ideas.....off to research it some more, but any and all ideas welcome!!!

Make a one piece "quilt". Cut a big enough piece of the silk to make a blanket, back and stuff it like you would a quilt top and tie it instead of quilting it. You can probably find some silk embroidery floss or similar to tie it with. It would be super easy, even if you don't have a lot of sewing expirience.
