Vinegar for weed control

I hate buying and using Roundup on our weeds in the yard. We have a brick patio and we have to use Roundup on the weeds that grow between the bricks. I thought I had heard someone say one time that vinegar can kill them. Any truth to that or anyone have any ideas?

Yup, straight vinegar. Do it in the morning and they should be gone by evening.

Boiling water works also.

Wow, can't believe you're talking about killing weeds at this time of year - we're getting snow!!
I've used straight vinegar as well as just pouring boiling water on the weeds and both have worked well. I think the vinegar works faster but it's obviously more expensive if you've got a large area.

Another thing I thought of if you really have a large area is a small flamer. The gardening catalogs usually have them. Vinegar doesn't work as well in my cool climate (we have snow too). The guys seem to really like the flamers, so I'd tell the DH to use one of those.

Thanks for the advice!

BTW, it's getting cold here too. I was thinking ahead for next year. Plus, we still have some autumn stragglers.
