is there a way to clean it using something natural. like, say baking soda paste? we have very hard water here and it stains. I have made alot of my own cleaners for years but STILL buy toilet bowl cleaner, which I want to cut out. TIA!

Yup, you can use baking soda, vinegar, Borax, hydrogen peroxide (or powdered Oxygen bleach, which is essentially the same thing). Experiment with different substances and a brush until you find something that works.

For dissolving stains, you might want to dust the bowl with BS right after flushing/refilling the bowl so that it can stick to the wet sides and give you something to scrub with the brush.

I am going to try the baking soda.

I use a good shake of baking soda followed by some vinegar. Let it sit, then scrub. Works for me!

I dump a can of generic cola in and scrub aftter about 15 min. The crap eats everything!

An overnight soak with Borax really helps with the stains. Esp. if you use the method PP mentioned of sprinkling it in as the toilet is filling so it will stick a bit to the sides.

I am still having a hard time keeping the under the rim area clean with the natural cleaners though. Maybe I'm not using enough elbow grease

I also us Bon Ami - which is just calcium carbonate - for scouring the tub and toilet. Less scrubbing than baking soda, less rinsing than borax.

Still use the others at times though.

Use a pumice stone to rub off hard water stains. Drain the water and go to town!
