I hate that smell. I accidentally bought scented trash bags one time, and they have the exact same smell. I didn't want to waste the trash bags, so I use them when I clean out the fridge, but I have to make sure I go to the dump right away so they don't stink up the house.

scented tampons and pads do *not* smell anything like flowers. they are a far far cry from flowers. if there are flowers growing in hell, maybe. \

i have accidentlaly bought scented pads a couple times and i was never so miserable. i only use them for sleeping, and i htink i had nightmares. about the devil, probably. cuz you know, only the devil would make a product that makes women suffer MORE when on thier period, and design the package so that it cannot be properly read over children yakking and whining in a cart.

I can't read this whole thing because I ust threw up a little in my mouth.

The answer is fear.

They use fear to sell so many things. The fear that we smell bad, the fear that others will judge us if we don't have a sexy car...fear sells.

That is the grossest thing ever. I can't let anything scented near my girly bits or I end up with a terrible infection. That goes for scented toilet paper, bubble bath, bath oils, etc...

I've told DH's family on SEVERAL occasions that I'm allergic to bath sets and yet every Christmas I get one. Hoo-ray for regifting.

Well, I still have some tampons from before I got the divacup. This month, the day before I got my period, there was a boil water advisory due to possible e. coli contamination in the water supply. I wasn't comfortable using the water to wash my cup and then using it, so I went to tampon backups this month...

I guess I am alone here. Scented tampons don't bother me.

I've only had about a dozen periods in the past 5 years so there's been a box of tampons under my sink forEVER and none of my many guests has ever been rude enough to say anything to me about them...maybe I should ask them if there is a weird smell in the bathroom?

I wouldn't DREAM of commenting on anyone's personal body odor, good or bad...or the smell of any product they used.

i HATE the smell of those things!!! i have bought them on accident but couldn't bring myself to use them, i used washcloths instead.

I think they are soooo gross smelling.

But god(dess) forbid we actually have a natural smell. Because, you know, we can't actually admit we are female and we have periods. Another way to hide how "dirty" we are.

I didn't know they put perfume in them things. Gross. I thought they weren't supposed to be scented and all that. I've always used paper pads that don't smell. I'm looking forward to the day that we won't need to buy them either.

I keep a tampon in each of the cars and in my backpack. I can't afford a diva to keep in each place, and I just don't remember to pack sometimes.

I used to use them. I never really gave it much thought, but thinking about it now, this *might* have been what was going through my head:

So, you're a teenager. You're surrounded by all this hype about menstrual products. The advertising world and what little you get from the adults around you tells you that menstruation is messy, dirty, smelly, and shameful. You see that there are tons of perfumed products - pads, tampons, sprays. These reinforce the idea that menstruation is smelly and that the odor needs to be masked. So *of course* you don't want to stink, right? So you buy the scented ones. There are so many available, it must be a good idea, the unscented ones must be for people who don't realize how badly they smell! Then, when you're using the perfumed ones, you *do* think you reek. OMG, they smell bad. Thank goodness you got the perfumed ones, think how awful it would be if you weren't masking that smell?

Yeah, it's stupid. But it's what advertisers want us to think. They've done such a great job they probably believe it themselves.

Lovin' my Diva, and how odor-free it is.

I think once its inside, you can't smell it, so what's the point. I can smell the scented pantiliners and stuff.

Not every place you go has a sink in a stall for rinsing out. Which is why I don't get as much use from my Mooncup as I'd like and still keep tampons around for when I have to leave the house for any length of time.

I think Maeve and Momtwice have nailed it. Fear of others' judgment and fear of our very naturalness.

If I were to accidently buy any of these scented products, I'd return them. I'm allergic to something often used in cheap perfumes.

They have them here too on the ads they call them flower power tampons
why oh why
would sticking something perfumed up there not cause thrush or something anyways : or am i just thick

I can't explain it and wouldn't want to. Fear and excuse to up the price on the packaging....oooooh, pay more because it's scented now! Whoohoo! (gag!)

I prefer my mamapads. SIL asked, "well, what about smell?"...uh, those scented things CRY, "I'm on my period!" No Thanks!

I just take a bottle (with the sport/squirt top) into the stall with me (I usally keep one in my purse or backpack because I get thursty all the time) and rinse it with that. Or if I forget my water, I just wipe it out with TP. I know some people pee on their cup to rinse it out (urine is steril and all) but that kind of ookes me out...

Cups don't need to be rinsed out every single time. If I'm in a public restroom I dump and re-insert. If my fingers need cleaning I either use TP (and wash) or use baby wipes, since I usually have a diaper bag in there with me.

That makes sense. At this point, I travel lighter than that, but it's a good idea to keep in mind.
