what do sewing mamas want for gifts?

Help me out here crafty ladies! I'm looking for a gift for a young lady who is pretty handy with a sewing machine and happen to know she is getting a new one for Christmas. Are there any good gift items that would go along with the theme? It's not her first machine so I assume she already has all the basic supplies so....as someone who sews, what kind of gift would you like to support your craft? In the $20ish range. Really fancy scissors or something?

A great pair of scissors would be wonderful if you know she doesn't already have some. If you have a Joann's by you, they put the Ginghers on sale quite a lot.

One of my favorite gifts that my mil will do for me is to buy me a few quilting/crafting/sewing magazines. Or you could always get her a subscription to a magazine if you know what she likes to make.

Do you know what she likes to sew?

She does mostly clothes I think. Outfits for role playing games and stuff. Maybe I'll take a ride up to Joannes and see if they have any cool magazines about that style of clothing, I hadn't thought of that. Thank you for helping

A rotary cutter and mat is an accessory she is likely to find useful and may not have.

If you're going to Joanns, don't forget that you can see a lot (all?) of their specials online and that they actually have some online only specials (with free shipping, IIRC) this weekend.

Happy shopping!

Gift cards are always nice. I also love having a spool holder for my threads. It's a wooden rack with a bunch of little posts sticking up to put your thread spools on. I just bought a second one and it was about $13.
Since the big sales were last weekend, maybe you've already found that special gift.

I'd love a subscrip to Sewing News or Threads.
I'd love something to help me keep my sewing stuff organized. I want one of those thread keeper deals or a sewing trolley.

An issue of Ottobre Design magazine (the have mostly kids - nb through teenager, but have one woman's issue per year). You can buy single issues in US$ from www.sewzannes.com (and Suzanne is WONDERFUL). You can also preview the issues there. A very popular one (which includes undies/undershirts for toddlers/girls/boys) is the 04/2004 issue.

-OR-

If she has little ones - and offer to babysit them for a three or four hour stretch so that she can have uninterrupted time to sew.

Here's a pic of my thread holders. I don't know why the image won't show, sorry for the link.

I second both rotary cutter and cutting board, and for a less-expensive gift, a large spool holder. I got the spool holder last year for x-mas (actually 2 of them) and love it. Also, I received a full-spectrum light, but I think those are a bit $$$. I like good pins but for some reason have a hard time spending the extra $ on that for myself. A gift certificate is always nice, since seamstresses always seem to know what they need, but I know that isn't as much fun.

If you have a ShopKo store near you, they carry full spectum lights. They are often on sale for $20.
