My DH got me for Christmas a small sewing machine , like this one in the ad :

I was just wondering if anyone has used one of these and if they are any good.. i want to start basic sewing , like simple things , ie : pj pants ,fixing hems etc ..
thanks

the link goes to 3 ads.

i have used a simple machine and liked it. seems like mostly one does straight and zig zag and if particularly adventurous, a buttonhole.

the cheaper machines may have plastic gears which will wear down faster than the 'better' machines.

seems like if you're getting interested, this will be a good way to determine if you need a better mahcine - if you wear out the one you're getting.

so, happy stitching!!!

I have a little janome "sew petite" that my grandmother got me for my birthday, and it does everything I need it to, and quite well. It's got several different straight and zigzag stitches, and you can adjust the thread tension and have it stitch backwards, and that's about all. My mother is hoping I will outgrow it soon since I'm really getting into sewing things, and then I can give the machine to my little sister to experiment with, but I kind of like it!
