Kellymom has some good info on fenugreek. I think the tea is not as strong, so if you're really trying to increase your supply, you should go with the capsules. I don't think you can drink too much of the tea to cause a problem.

Just a warning about the fenugreek capsules -- they can give you stomach pains. I had this side effect but didn't associate it right away with the fenugreek. And it didn't start until I'd been taking them for almost 2 weeks. Took a couple days then I double checked the package & it's printed right on it. Don't recall what the dosage I was taking was, but it was whatever the recommended dosage on the package says -- maybe 2-3 caps 3x a day?

Not a reason to not use fenugreek (it works great for *many* mamas) but something to be aware of.

Also, teas with fenugreek in them like the Mother's Milk tea don't bother my stomach. So if the pills do bother you (barring a major allergic reaction of course) don't assume that the smaller amounts in tea or whatever will have the same effect. I'm using Mother's Milk tea and the Motherlove Special Blend tincture this time around for my supply problems. Both have fenugreek as one of the ingredients & I'm not anticipating any problems.

Good luck!

Blessings,
Holly

You should take fenugreek until your sweat smells kind of like maple syrup. You will notice it, but it isn't a "bad" smell. For me this is only 2 capsules a day but maybe more for other people (2 capsules, three times a day is the usual recommendation). I also like to get my fenugreek by making and eating lots of delicious Indian food (or getting takeout). It is usually loaded with fenugreek (especially palak paneer).

Like pp said, until you smell like maple syrup (keep increasing dosage).

Do I stop taking the fenugreek when My sweat smells like maple syrup??
No, just stay at that dosage each day. so, if at 2 caps per day, you smell like maple syrup, then continue taking 2 caps per day.

What does it taste like if you can't swallow the capsules? I've heard it is pretty bad, but I do the tea and it is fine. Now pp said something about cooking with it so I'm wondering if it is that bad. Our Meijer has supplements on sale buy 1 get 1 free this week and I'm really tempted to get some fenugreek, but I don't want to waste the money of I won't be able to get it down. (Oh, I have a huge aversion to swallowing pills so getting a capsule down is not going to happen no matter what.)

Could you try buying the caps and dissolving in a tiny bit of water and swallow it all at once? Or maybe a tincture would be another good route. Tinctures are better absorbed anyway.

With my tinctures, I just add 10-29 drops in a small bit of water and take it that way. I haven't had one I can't handle yet.

Well, it depends on how bad it tastes. I was sick a lot when I was a kid and got such aversion to meds that I can't swallow and sometimes immediately gag as soon as the meds are in my mouth. I know it's mostly psychsomatic, but I can't get past it. If there is any bit of a bad taste, it won't go down. That's why I'm so undecided about trying herbs etc. On one hand I feel like I'm not really doing all I can, but really if I can't swallow them I am doing all that I can do.

More Milk Plus tincture worked well for me after a year of fenugreek working and then not working anymore... I was EPing.

I think I was taking 4 pills 3-4 times / day. Just to give you an idea of another person's dosage. But I was pumping and not nursing...

If you have stomach pains, try slowing down the dosage increase a lot. Wait for your system to get used to it. Then do another slight increase until you smell maply.

Any suggestions on where to purchase the Fenugreek tincture online?

Thanks.
