Ann, that is funny that you like the hockey players. We need an 'ovulating and lusting for sports stars' support group!

Here's a link to instructions that did the job for me:

http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/homeinsem.html

I did want to mention that I have always used the Instead Cup method because it's just plain easier, neater, and less dangerous, but I have a fair amount of practice with menstrual cups and used a diaphragm for bc back in the days when I was a person, so you might want to practice ahead of time with an empty cup to get the technique down to make sure you don't risk spilling "the goods".

I'm not sure how much you know (or care) about my personal drama, but I live in a small town on a small income so I had my donor ship overnight with a Bio-Tranz, although I have heard very mixed stories as far as how successful that can be.

If you are using dh or SO instead of a known donor who you want to inconvenience as little as possible, a less expensive way to go would be the Bio-Flite, and although I have no first hand experience, I have heard that if you order over the phone, the company will sell you the test yolk buffer spearately, although Rose, who answers the phones, can get kind of grumpy sometimes and you have to make absolutely sure that you specify that you want HUMAN test yolk buffer.

Apologies to all who really didn't want to know such graphic details;.

Tara, apologies for my previous post; I always enjoy reading you and can't remember ever being on opposing sides of an argument with you so i guess there's at least ONE Virgo in the world I get along with. The other Zodiac sign I wanted to avoid was Taurus and I found out during THAT month that I didn't TTC that another close internet friend was a Taurus.

Laurie, now that I think about it, it was an exceptionally cold night when I had that temp dip and I don't heat my house above 55 degrees, so that might have had something to do with it.

Sorry hlnmommy, wish I knew more about longer cycles to help you. I see you tested, which would have been my only suggestion, with that kind of CM.

spider thanks for the info. But I think I need more graphic details! Here's the situation: dh will be in Canada for three possibly critical days. Would it be better to freeze or refrigerate a sample obtained at home, or send him there with a Bio-Flite kit and have him ship it home overnight?

If the former, what's the best way to do that? And if the latter, what's the yolk for?

Actually, it hadn't occured to me that horse breeders do this all the time.

Hopin' it's okay to jump in here, even though I haven't used biotranz/bioflight.

Here's what I'd suggest: Call Bio Flite and ask to get the human test yolk buffer. They should be able to also get you the dry ice necessary for cooling the sperm sample. They'll give you instructions for getting a donation, preparing it for cooling/chilling, and then thawing and using it. You should do all of this at home before DH leaves. Maybe even a few times.

So, in essence, you'll have chilled sperm ready to go when he leaves. It will have to be chilled, I'm virtually positive, on dry ice. Bio Flite should tell you how long it will last on the dry ice.

Then, when you get a positive OPK, follow the thawing instructions, and do an insemination. You can do the cup method mentioned by spider, or you can just empty the vial of sperm (once thawed) into a 5cc needleless syringe (available at a lot of drug stores). To inseminate yourself, you'll want to slowly empty the syringe into your vagina. You want to keep your hips propped up and empty slowly. Don't try to get it directly into your cervix. Only washed sperm can be put directly into your cervix, and you can't wash your own sperm, no matter how it sounds.

I would think that with bio flite you could get enough to do a few insems -- maybe two on one day and one the next?

Hopefully this will help a bit. Sorry for the TMI for anyone....:

Good luck figuring out the details!

Just checking in - don't let me interrupt.

CD80.

All of y'all who don't want your AFs...send them to me.

Please place me on Waiting To O.
Wow, I can't believe how many post's there are since yesterday!!

to those whom AF has come uninvited...

I called my midwife today to make an appointment... she said to call after 6 months of TTC... so I called and I was told that I could get in to see her on Feb 7!! I said I can't wait until then so a nurse spoke to her and asked to see my BBT chart and wants to test my DH sperm count. I guess that they are thinking of putting me on clomid. I honestly don't think that I've been ovulating. When I was younger I had CM and could usually feel something during O - now nothing! I feel like I don't have any CM. We bought Preseed and as I said I am virtually standing on my head after BD

My charting doesn't really tell me much because up until this month I haven't been very good at charting BUT my midwife wants to see my charts - I don't really have them but I am afraid if I tell her that she'll say that she needs to see 6 months of charting before she'll do anything...What do I do?

The Test Yolk Buffer is an extender that nourishes the sperm while it is in transit. You use four parts of the buffer to one part of the ejaculate, so be prepared for a bit of mess.

The sperm cannot live outside the human body for an appreciable amount of time unless it is frozen, which you cannot do at home. It is chilled with those "blue ice packs" and kept cold in what looks irreverantly much like a picnic cooler. You use overnight shipping. My swim team was picked up at my donor's house at 2 PM and arrived at my doorstep at 10 AM.

Of course I paid for the Bio-Tranz to be sent to my donor's house and then overnighted to my house, which was a bit less than $200. I could probably have kept my own travel expenses below that if I'd done Greyhound bus and Youth Hostel, but I don't think that's what most Known Donors have in mind when you offer to pay their travel expenses.

If I were you, I'd have dh overnight the Swim Team on your most fertile day or days. My KD is fairly experienced and when it comes to shipping, he abstains for three days for the greatest possible sperm count, although those of you in relationships do better by more frequent, less potent insems.

Unfortunately, he's in New England and I'm in California and those long distance things never work out.

Well, I don't know about never, but I'm kind of new to the whole shipping thing so I felt more comfortable with a more experienced "shipper" in the nearest big city.

My mother bred Shetland Sheepdogs when I was a kid, so personally I find all of this biology stuff to be fascinating and somewhat familiar rather than gross. :

spider according to my birthday I am a Taurus, although I must say I don't put much stock in the Zodiac. I do think it is funny that you and I shouldn't get along. I have always felt a sort of connection with you.

Ok, well, after looking through all of the FF charts...well not ALL, but a LOT!! I have decided that even though there were a few with at 7DPO(tomorrow), I will NOT test before Saturday (11DPO and my anniversary)...a LOT of the were at 10 or 11 DPO, so here's hoping!! Also, I saw that several got positive OPKs a day or two before theire pos HPT....any thoughts on this?? I know it's not definitive, but they're SOOO much cheaper!! Plus I only have a $ test, a digital, and 3 OPKs, and can't buy anything before the 8th!!! AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

Fishie Kisses -- I didn't realize we were cycle buddies this month. I'm on 6 dpo today also. Keep those pee sticks in the cabinet! Last month I peed on both an OPK and HPT every time. Check out my chart. I put in a positive OPK on days there was any line at all on the OPK, no matter how faint.

Good morning! Last night my sister called my 15 year old niece ( the one that tried to give me tips on how to get preg ) lost her baby. I told my sis she had better talk to her and tell her that she had better wait a few years or decade! I told her to look into the rod thing that you have implanted in to your arm. They have that here they must have it there too. I just don't know what it is called. You know what my sis said?? I cant force her to undergo surgery like that! What?? She has her head in the sand! I can't believe she won't even talk to her daughter about that option! She deserves to be a grandma at 35! Ok, I am sorry that my niece has to go through this but..... I really think it is for the better her bf is uneducated has had 5-6 jobs in the past year and she is still in highschool! I just don't understand them.

Enough of my family drama! I hope that everyone has a great day!!
