Signed. Thank you! As someone who's temporarily working in a school, and as a mom, this is a subject that's close to my heart. I was talking to a special ed teacher whose been teaching for 32 yrs, and she says that she can't do this anymore--this is her last year. She told me about kids spending 12 hours--from 8am till 8pm, with lunch and occassional breaks--in tests, and all kinds of horrible things. My son goes to public school, and we're having a great experience so far, so it's not that I'm against public schools. But this HAS to change.

Thanks! I sent to my dh who is a teacher and has 6 family members in education and a kabillion friends and I don't think I've met an educator yet who likes NCLB - for all the reasons listed in the petition. Hopefully it will get forwarded around a bit in the top ranking large US school district we live in.

I know everyone should sign but I know teachers have their entire profession/ student bodies affected by this and are definitely highly motivated to sign!

ETA: My DH is probably leaving Sp.Ed. at the end of this year largely because of NCLB.

I totally agree with the sentiment, but politicians pay almost no attention to online petitions, many of which wind up being signed by people who aren't even American. The best way to express your opinion is to e-mail or call your legislators directly. Let them know that you live in their state/district and oppose NCLB, and give a few of your reasons. It only takes a few moments more, and it is SO MUCH more effective.

Signed.

Almost every teacher I know (and I was one) HATED NCLB. And that is mostly because it wasn't written and designed by teachers. :
