I need something to be able to give away to my mainstream friends at baby showers and stuff but can't afford the Babybook (which is so great)......any suggestions?

IMO, there is no substitute - i just looked at abebooks.com, and they have it for as low as 8.95 - I don't know how you feel about giving used books, but I do it all the time. What's inside is what counts. This book is so worth it. Another way might be to go in on it with another friend. Now that you mention it, I want to give that book to everyone as well! amazon.com or eBay might be good sources, too - I pick up and pass on copies of How to Talk... at Goodwill but have never seen the Baby Book there.

checked again - out of amazon, abebooks.com & eBay, eBay has the lowest price - one auction is for 1.99 with no bids and only one day left - amazon is the highest prices by about $5.

My favorite is Listening To Your Baby by Dr. Jay Gordon. $11.16 new on Amazon, and he's very pro breastfeeding, family bed, etc.

www.addall.com

This is a great place to find the lowest price for any book online. I got my Dr. Sears Pregnancy Book from there for around 7 bucks.

thanks for the links and suggestions!! The only other problem there is that we don't have a credit card or a debit card and are about to close our checking account so I don't really have a way to purchase things on-line. Which is a major bummer because these are some good deals!! But we may be getting a credit card this summer.
My dh works at a book store where he gets a 30% discount, but even with that The Baby Book is pricy new. I guess I'll just have to splurge sometime.

my credit union gave us a Visa check card - works just like a cc online but you won't get caught in the credit trap! Just a suggestion... you don't have to have good credit to get one (can you guess why we did?)

Do you have a Half Price Books store near you? We do and they have a ton of The Baby Books from the last edition since a new one just came out and they are 9.99 for the older edition from the 1990s. Really any book store may have the older edition for cheap right now. I'd check it out.

Good luck!

Motherwise and fatherwiseare great little books that are perfect for giving as new mom gifts. If bought in bulk I was able to get them for $4.50 each. They are available through LLL.I htink list price is $7.50 but if you are member you get 10% off and our group sold them for $5 just because we wanted people to give them to friends etc., . . ..

They are absolutely no relation to baby wise (although I con't think the names are coincedental - i think they were hoping people would get confused and pick up these instead). They have about 101 tips for parents. a lot of "It is OK to pick up your baby, bring them to bed, feed them when they are hingy, hug and kiss them " etc. . .stuiff in it. Very simpole but he message is clear.

What's been the reaction by your mainstream friends when you do give them the Sears (or like) book? I think it's a great idea, but would they think I'm being too pushy?
