31 Foods - Page 3

Yes, I think Tara is right...if we were to count up all the foods over the year, I'm sure we'd be in the 100's. You and I eat similarly Tara, but it always appears to me that you are eating more creatively! It is nice that you counted all that up.

Today so far:

Muffin - nothing nutritious 0
Coffee - 1
Turkey, rice, left over Indian (eggplant, spinach, onions, tomatoes, peas, garlic, ginger, turmeric, cardamom, coriander, cumin) 13

Grapes for a snack 1

Dinner: salad: 4 or 5 different baby greens, green peppers, 3 different types of mushrooms, olive oil, balsamic, maple syrup, mustard.13

Dessert: dark chocolate (93%), raspberries (mmmm) 2

Total: 30...close, no cigar.
lunch:
sandwich (sprouted multigrain bread, chicken, deviled ham, muenster cheese, romaine lettuce, mayonnaise, ranch dressing)
trail mix (almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, cashews, raisins, currants)
13

misc:
coffee
blueberries
2

dinner: (at a chinese restaurant, listing the ingredients I could identify)
pork with szechuan cabbage (pork, pickled cabbage, bamboo shoots, chili sauce)
beef with black bean sauce (beef, green bell pepper, onions, scallions, fermented black beans)
green beans with young ginger (green beans, carrots, ginger, onions)
rice
jasmine tea
crispy noodles, duck sauce, and fortune cookie not counted
14

total so far: 29 (probably 30 though, because the sauces for my food probably had soy sauce)

I've actually been having a muffin for breakfast each day, but it contains nothing really nutritious except some homemade applesauce so I haven't been counting it. (thought I'd that since I saw marie had a muffin too, )

That's 'cause I only ever talk about the *good* meals. I don't brag about the nights when dinner is a bag of Tinkyada rice pasta, a jar of TJs vodka sauce and a bag of frozen veggies y:

Jeez Marie, you told me about this thread what, yesterday?! I was cruisin' around & stumbled upon it! How quickly things slip my mind, maybe if I eat 31 different foods a day my memory will improve . Maybe if I eat dinner at Tara's one night a week & your house on another night, I'll meet my goal at least on those days!

Coffee, raw milk 2

CLO and FO (is that one or two?) OJ as a chaser 2 or 3

Wheat farina, maple syrup, raw milk (already counted), one banana 3

Organic plain yogurt (that's different from raw milk, no?), granola (oats, coconut, almonds, honey) 5

Apple 1

Whole wheat pasta, organic pastured ground beef, sauce: tomatoes, fresh raw garlic, onions, green peppers, thyme, basil, oregano. 9

That's 23, yikes! And where are my greens?! : Off for a late night snack of 8 different veggies.

The only thing worse would be to count the variety in my almost 4 year old's diet, especially since she's been feeling yucky.

It's been a busy day of running. Here's the best I can recollect We did lunch at the kid's museum, where I mostly sampled off the things we'd brought for the kids; thus a large variety at lunch time, but since we were planning a late dinner we had a very heavy snack at the market later too.

Kefir smoothie (raw kefir, raw egg yolks, CLO, banana, strawberries, CO) 6
Tea (tea, raw honey, raw milk) 2

Lunch:
Morrocan braised beef (beef, butternut squash, tomatoes, onions, garlic, raisins, wine, sherry, olive oil, wild mushrooms, beef broth, tons of spices which I'll lump together as 1) 10
Onigiri (white rice, nori, furikake: sesame seeds, salt, seaweed) 3
Carrots with honey mustard (Annie's horseradish mustard with raw honey) 3
Pineapple, satsuma mandarin 2

Snack:
Peanut soup (at store, guessing at ingredients) 6
Macaroon (egg whites, coconut, sugar, raisins) 3
Coffee 1

Dinner:
Quesadilla-like mexican style thing (sprouted corn tortillas, chicken, peppers, onions, fajita seasoning, sour cream, salsa, olive oil) 8

Bad girl splurge: gf cherry crumb tart. Tons of ingredients, none of them awful, like bean flours and stuff; but, for the sake of argument, I'll just count the cherries 1

Total so far: 45

I had another question regarding the paleolithic diet. Would there have cultures who specialized in certain foods according to their region or whatever? I do have a decent variety throughout the year, but there are certain things I eat everyday, like brown rice, eggs, and kale. And these are not phases unless a phase can be counted in decades. I'm not really worried about it, but I am curious whether there were "staples". Thanks.

I couldn't post yesterday, and now I'm forgetting, so will post later.

Oh hey! I had a beer with dinner last night - does that count as 1? Woo-hoo, I'm up to 24! I *never* drink beer, boy was it yummy.
Beer counts! That's a traditional food as far as I know. Boy, a beer for me is a luxury these days too. The closest thing to a beer lately is kefir. I swear I can feel it though sometimes.

Well, yesterday was tough. Lotsa running - T's dance class, Christmas craft sale at the waldorf school, then up to my Aunt's birthday party over an hour away from me. Muche eating on the run, plus what I ate at the party was a combination of what I brought and what was catered. Let's see if I can remember...

Kefir smoothie (kefir, egg yolk, CLO, ground flax seed, banana, raspberries, CO) 7

Latte 1
Macaroon (coconut, egg whites, sugar, raisins) 3

Pecans 1

Onigiri (white rice, nori, canned salmon, olive oil mayonnaise, soy sauce, sesame seeds, salt) 6
Sausage with onions, peppers, tomato sauce 4
Chicken breast w/ some sort of creepy seasoning on it 1

Hrm. That only brought me up to 21. I did have a piece of GF cake, with all kinds of flours in it - rice, tapioca, garbanzo bean, etc. Should I count all those?

Mmmmm, I've done well the last couple of days...trying to increase my intake of food in general, but also trying to shake things up a little.

Yesterday:

Coffee - raw milk 1

Egg nog - (raw milk, 5 yolks, nutmeg, maple syrup, vanilla) 5

5 macaroons - (had to use up the whites!) coconut, egg whites, maple syrup, vanilla (should I add yolks & whites separately?) 2

CLO & FO with OJ as a chaser 3

Farina - wheat farina, raw milk, maple syrup (my sweetener of choice ) 1

Pot roast - beef, carrots, potatoes, onions, vinegar, salt, pepper, butter, glass raw milk 8

Shrimp with cream sauce over rice - shrimp, rice, olive oil, garlic, cream, parsley, basil, salt, pepper 6

Out to Trader Joe's...samples - Cheese tortellini - pasta, cheese, sausage, sauce, cherry cider 5

(More pot roast) with sourdough, butter & beer 2

Woo-hoo!!! 33 foods!! (One was an itty bitty sample, but nonetheless, 33 foods!) Wonder how many calories all of that was?
