I love my sling that is similar
to the Maya wrap pattern only I added extra fabric so I had an extra long cover for napping nursing or weather. It makes a great blanket too.

To me, it depends so much on the age of the babe. For a newborn, I think the easiest/most comfortable is a stretchy wrap like a Moby, Hug-a-Bub or Cuddly Wrap. You can leave the wrap on and pop the baby in and out throughout the day, you can BF discreetly in there, and I loved the comfort of a two-shoulder carry (pouches were great, but not as comfy for me).

And then after 6 months, back carries became so essential to me--I found a buckle carrier easiest (like a Beco, Ergo, etc.), but a Mei Tai is a great option too. And many people find woven wraps (like a Didymos) the most comfortable of all--it just takes some practice to get the hang of it.

My dd is 10 months old now and we still use her Kangaroo Korner adjustable fleece pouch more than any other carrier. When she was a newborn, it was a guaranteed soother for her and she would usually sleep in there during any outings. Now, as an older babe, I use it with the hip carry. It is so much easier for her to ride on my hip for a quick stop at the grocery store than to lug out the stroller/put her in the germ-infested cart. They have so many colors to choose from now, too. It's worth three times what we paid for it!

For ease, my favorite is a Hotslings Fleece pouch, then it's the cotton stretch pouch. DD has been in a pouch since she was first born and I still carry my pouch around for quick trips. It also comes in handy as a blanket, or wrap for my arms if I'm cold. But my all-time favorite workhorse carrier is the ERGO. Hands down! It's super comfy, not too froo froo and easy to put on.

For a newborn a fleece pouch, DS was in it from day 1. Now at almost 4 months a wrap, he gets put in a front carry and sleeps really well while I can do things around the house. It is the most secure IMO. As he gets older I am sure we will go back to the pouch for hip carry

When you refer to wrap, what exactly do you mean , like a rebozo?

I am so overwhelmed - I have looked through the stickys but still get confused on all the different types and the "brands" that go with them.

TIA

Yes, I have a ellaroo wrap. But DH just went to walmart and got a big piece of fabric and made his own. He ended up getting 2 wraps for under $20.
