sew a pouch on hotsling?

I'm REALLY not good at sewing, that said, I'm thinking about trying to put a pocket on my beautiful, hemp, cotton, spandex hotsling (I really don't want to ruin it!) I just want one big enough for a sposie and my wallet....
has anyone done this or have any advice for me?
