Should I get a mai tei?

I already have an Ergo and a hotsling, both which I love, but I'm thinking about getting a mai tei for myself for Christmas, just to have another option. Would this be a waste of money since I already have and use the Ergo? I'm thinking it might be nice to be able to shove something other than the sling in my diaper bag, also maybe it'll be even more comfy than the Ergo?
also, I found one for a great price.

I HIGHLY recommend getting a MT! My fave is www.kozycarrier.com - I have several & this is by far my fave!

Recommended brands?

I'm very interested in what folks have to say. I used an Over the Shoulder Baby Holder and a Maya Wrap with my first DD and although I love them and use them still, my body is packing it in as far as wearing a 10lb baby for several hours at a time. It's hurting my back! I'd like something where the child's weight is more evenly distributed, and I'd really like 2 hands, rather than one.

So.....please write and let us know a) why and b) which!!!!!!

(Hope I'm not grabbing this thread and throwing it in a different direction...not my intent...)

I have an Ergo, a Baby Hawk MT, a Napsack MT and a Storchenweige wrap and I love all of them for different reasons. I used the Ergo a LOT when DD was a bit lighter (she's 23 pounds now - so from about 16 to 21 pounds). I still use when I am going out in a hurry, as I do find the buckles to be very quick to do up.

However, the MT is almost as quick to do up, it's way smaller to take with me, it's way prettier, and it's just as comfy as the Ergo, sometimes comfier as long as I take a few extra seconds to make sure that she's up nice and high. Also, I don't have to adjust anything to get her into a back carry using the MT, like I do with the Ergo.

In terms of brands of MTs, I've tried quite a few belonging to friends and based on our collective experiences, here are our faves:

Babyhawk (comes in a longer body or XT version and a shorter body version)
Kozy
Freehand

I would definitely get one with padded straps. I personally like the longer body version of the BAbyhawk.

So, yes, in short, I would recommend you get an MT as your very own Xmas gift to yourself.

I agree - mei tai's are great. We don't getto wear our little ones for that long - why not have fun and try new things, nak

I love our Kozy...very versatile and well made. Have you considered coming to the local NINO meeting? You could try out a lot of different slings (and wraps and Mei Teis!) and then you'll have a broader base of things to choose from.

What's the NINO meeting??
Oops, I don't know if you have one in your area or not? Check your tribal area to see...NINO stands for Nine In Nine Out, as in nine months in mama, nine months out but attached. Like slinging, babywearing etc.

At the meetings (free) you can try out all sorts of wraps and slings and stuff and chat and share tips and stuff with other babywearing mamas.

I saw someone on this thread that lives in my area and I was referring to our area NINO group, but I bet you have one near you!! You should go check.

Hey there -

Just finding out about the NINO group in our area. How long has it been active? For all the folks I know who babywear, I'm suprised I haven't heard about it sooner. An under the radar group? Hoping to make the next meeting - I'm using a borrowed BabyHawk and eyeing up a Kozy.

Kozy Rocks!

I just got mine a few weeks ago and I am in heaven! My 6 month old 21 lb. tank has been known to squirm in everything else and he didn't fuss one bit. Also, he fell asleep in in right away which is what I was truely (and desperately) looking for.

Although I do not have an Ergo, it looks very similar. You may have to get used to getting the Kozy on since it requires wrapping around your back. I found it a bit akward at first (like any other carrier) but got the hang of it really quickly.
