Are girls clothes made differently than Boys?

There was a big sale at a store by our house today, and I found myself in the baby section... I got 2 really cute cater's newborn suits (well, one was a 3 month suit)... but I kept being drawn to these really cute, pretty boy-ish sleepers... they just seemed, more comfy and sturdier somehow.

I have TONS of boy clothes, so I couldn't justify getting them, but am I just too used to looking for good boy stuff? Why isn't there more universal babywear in mainstream stores?! do infant girls really want ruffles on their sleeves?

Hi there...not in your DDC, but wanted to let you know that I agree!!! I desperately am hoping for a girl, but I think boy clothes are SOOOO much cuter overall! I am definitely more drawn to them!

Now this is coming from someone who dresses her dd in camo, overalls, etc. and has since her first outfit...

I totally agree. The other thing i found is that boys clothes were more likely to be cut to allow room for cloth dipes.

For some reason the girly clothes aren't just pink and frilly, they are "slimming". ugh. I couldn't get them to cover dd's butt even when I DID use sposies (maybe because I used 7th generation? more bulky than Huggies or Pampers)

Agreed. Ingrid is wearing mostly boy hand-me-downs. The girl ones we have been given are so ugly.. a lot of the patterns remind me of old lady housedresses. And I can't stand all of the pink/ruffles/flowers.

I don't mind some pink, but why can't there be a little bit of variety? How about some red? Or maybe some bright purple? Fuschia, even???? Why does EVERY single solitary thing for girls have to be that saaaaaaaaaaaaame pale pink which a baby cannot see anyways?!?!?

And why? Why? Why do they have to add lace to the cuffs and those wierd little collars?

And the trend of slogans on baby stuff is really still bugging me like crazy. "I'm a little spoiled princess." UGGHHH!!!!

(That said I did manage to overdo on baby clothes even in spite of my snark to baby clothes makers! )

I didn't find girls clothes to be too much different than boys clothes. DD wore a variety of things from a little boys "golf" outfit to frilly lacy dresses. My favorite outfit though was a red longsleeved onesie with a black and white spotted velor cat on it and black "leather" pants. Got it at an outlet, it was SO cute. Almost wish I have another girl just to dig that out again.

I found a carter's line that is all pretty blues and white for little girls--it is still very frilly, but the blue is really pretty--my boys looked good in blue, hell, I look good in blue (and I look scary in pink!) so I figured it was a good find...

The collars are kind of weird-- some are cute, but when you can't hold your head up, does the collar just get in your face?

I've found 2 really cute red/holiday-ish outfits... and at least it isn't summer!

My friend was telling me about her experience with her little daughter being born in the summer--she received a bunch of dresses with spaghetti straps for an infant! imagine that.

You know this is funny . . .because I only have a dd, and now am going to have a girl and a boy and I found it much harder to shop for the boy.
It just seems like for girls you can get whatever you want. Girl and boy stuff.
But for boys, as liberal as I am about boys wearing pink and purple (my DH looks great in lavander!) it just seems like there is less choice to me.
Maybe it is just what I am used to. Also it seems like a lot of boy toddler clothes are soooo ugly, with about five colors being acceptable: navy, hunter green, yellow, gray and red. And those colors are so ugly to me.
I always dressed dd in bright colors (a la Hannah Andersen , and not too much pink (except lately, since she's three and is going through a princess stage, ugh!).
So I don't know. Just how it seems to me.

actually dd was born in May & got some of these as well. I actually liked them for the hot weather. They were light & airy & great to just throw over a diaper & go & still look cute.

I do hate they way most girl clothes are cut, especially low-rider jeans. ugh! Dd has mostly boys jeans instead of the thin jean material they use for girls.

mhy kids are not babies anymore but my DD is 4 and wears 4T. For some reason every single pair of pants I buy for her at WalMart are so huge in the waist they fell down. But My son's jeans/pants are made for skinny kids (which he is not)
