Didn't even try this time

I saw a woman I used to work with. She is pg with her 2nd child and found out it's a boy (#1 is a girl). Anyway, I thought about bringing up circ but decided not to try b/c with dd1, she wouldn't even try to bf, even though we all tried to convince her gently. I sort of felt bad later for not trying, but I know there is no way she would listen. She is mainstream to the max. So here I am confessing to you all.

I hear you. I didn't try to convince my BIL and SIL not to circ their 2nd -- figured we already tried our damndest and failed with #1, so what was the point? DH did email them to gently remind them about anesthesia, but sometimes the battle is lost before it's even begun. :

Yeah on things like this you have to sometimes take cues from people so you arent just paddling against the tide per say.....my brother just had a baby and fully vax'd ......my other sister tried to talk to him about it but to no avail....there is a nurse on the inlaw side.....like the pp said sometimes the battle is lost before it's even begun..........

Oh Lilli, I know exactly how you feel. When my SIL was pregnant with her first, my DH and I talked to her about circumcision (my brother and I don't get along very well, and he has a circumcised son from a previous marriage, so we figured we'd have a better chance with his wife).

She said she and my brother had talked about it, and he felt it should be done because he was (sigh). We tried to talk her out of it, but she dug in her heels, so I told her about anesthesia, possible complications to watch for, and proper after care. Luckily they had a girl.

Now they're pregnant again. I haven't brought it up since, so I don't know if SIL did any research on her own, or talked to my brother. We don't see them often, and I am very reluctant to do anything that might cause friction between us. I know I will be just sick if they have a son and circumcise him, but I will be een sicker if they don't invite us to see the new baby because they're mad at us (they live 500 miles away).

All I can do at this point is hope that we got to her the first time, and that she has made the decision on her own to leave her son intact - and hope they have another girl.
