Need to alter feet of footie PJs

I can sew okay by hand but don't have a machine. I could go to a friend's house and use her machine, though. Anyway, the PJs fit ds1 everywhere except the feet are too small (length - ds1 has long feet). Is there any way I can alter them so they fit his long feet, besides just cutting the feet off?

I guess what I would do would be to remove the sole of the foot and cut a new one to fit (remember seam allowances!). Then I would cut the toe off the foot (over the middle of the foot) and cut a new longer toe section to fit (again remember the seam allowances!) sew the new toe on and then sew on the sole. I would do my best not to mess with the ankle area.
