this time not good. they have their annual poopy diaper awards and one of them is to the gov't for 'forcing' breastfeeding on women. oh dear god!!! should we write them? what happened to their supporting of bfing?

Did the formula companies get a poopy diaper award too for "forcing formula down the throats" of new mothers? Of course, if they literally did force formula down mothers' throats, maybe less mothers would chose to formula feed their babies.

Yeah, that was annoying. It said something like "we should be supported in our decision to breastfeed, not bullied into it." (gag) Heaven forbid the government actually advocate something positive and healthy for a change.

I was also disappointed in that issue because they didn't publish the letter I wrote them about all their formula ads......

I've got se fed up with them after their vax article I called and canceled it. I would get pissed off every month when it came.

Babytalk itself should be nominated, for discouraging breastfeeding, despite that lovely August cover.

One of the supporting items for their nomination could be their lying. I want to see documentation of any government official Forcing any mother to breastfeed, or even bullying her into doing so.

Sharing facts is neither bullying nor forcing. However, IMO, patronizing mothers by not sharing facts lest they feel guilty for making an UNinformed choice, basically patting them on the head like children and saying "there, there, don't worry about it." is supreme disrespect. Of that, Babytalk is quite guilty.

I agree the formula companies should get an award too, but before everyone starts sending nasty letters.

The award was given in response to the breastfeeding PSA's featuring the bull riding and log rolling pregnant mama's. I think some of us were even turned off by those ads. There has to be a better way to encourage breastfeeding (longer maternity leave, educated hospital staff, no free formula etc..., education, education, education)
