Long story will follow!
With my first, we went to the hospital 8 hours after my water broke WAYYY too soon .. and were there FOREVER - avoided a c-section and LOVED my birth but it wasn't close to intervention free! We were determined not to make the same mistake again
I was getting anxious, as Kaiser's u's dated my due date either Nov 13 or 19. By conception date, I knew it was the 26th... but those early dates just stuck in my head and the WEEKS of contractions were messing with me!
Nov 26th came and that night I was full of energy. But no bloody show, mucous plug or poop signals. At about 1am I was crampy but didn't think it was a big deal. By 3 am, I woke up hubby and mentioned I was having ctx "but I'm sure it's nothing". By 3:30? I KNEW it was the real thing.
I had practiced and practiced my hypbirth stuff and some of it was AWESOME during the ctx the previous week but the tool I was CERTAIN would be my salvation (the finger drop) did NOTHING for me. Luckily a lot of the other visualizations and techniques worked GREAT.
I found that if I REALLY concentrated I felt a LOT of pressure, but no real pain. THe minute the concentration got away from me, I was yelling and swearing! (this happened maybe 10 times the whole labor).
We had a whole theory about when we would go to the hospital, and dh was going to let me know when he thought it was time... but i was concentrating so intently, he couldn't tell when ctx started or stopped... we went along this way for 5 hours or so. then DD woke up. my dad was in from the east coast to watch her, but DH spent a few minutes getting her mentally prepared.
By this time, I was nauseated and puking and said things like "i can't do this".. and I turned to FH and said "i think it's time" he agreed.. then spent 20 minutes finishing packing the birth bag!!
By this point? the walk to the car was tough.. and the rush hour traffic made the 30 minute drive worse....
We got to the hospital parking lot at 9:50. three gruesome ctx later we were at the entrance to the hospial birth center.
They were just opening the center (the bc has limited hours!- but the OB ward is alwys opened) and I stood there panting while they booted up the computer
I was so hoping to be at least 5 cm....
then they gave me a robe and sent me to the bathroom to change while they worked on my paperwork... I was about to pass out my ctx were STRONG...
Then, to triage.. where all I wanted was to relax on a bed and work thru my ctx.. and the nurse was making the bed.... and the rest of the staff were chit-chatting. I was freaking out.
until I got on the bed and a mw came by todo the check...
and I heard...."9... no 9.5... bulging bag of waters.. OOPS broken bag"
and everyone RAN!! I was in L&D and DH signed half my admissions forms as they sped me on the guerney.. at 10:10am.
And I'm yelling "i have to PUSH"
DH got me calmed down, I breathed through the ctx and THIRTEEN MINUTES LATER, They put a 9 pound 7 ounce baby on my chest....
He latched like champ and his 2 year old big sis loves him
the only downside was the fact that I didn't go home that night and although i sent dh home with DD, she cried for quite a while because we had never spent a night apart...
