i dont know is such a subjective definition is useful. many circumcised men and women think their body is perfect too.

Haven't read the other replies, but imo, if a consenting adult is getting pierced/circumcised/whatever, it's a TOTALLY different thing than most genital mutilation.

To me, mutilation implies an involentary thing. *shrug*

Though, technically, I guess it fits.

Do you consider self-mutilation involutary or voluntary?

Are hair pulling, flesh cutting/picking or other similar Obsessive Compulssive Disorders (OCD's) involuntary?

Self-mutilation has different degrees of severity. I think on 'the severity scale of self-mutilation' a piercing or a tatoo is somewhat low, but is still mutilation none-the-less.

IMO, when done by a consenting adult to their own body, anything that is otherwise considered "genital mutilation" is "genital modification."
