Caillou today

Maybe I shouldn't be so annoyed by this, but I was annoyed anyways so here goes:

Caillou was visiting a farm where they had sheep. One of the sheep got out of its pen and was running around. Caillou sees that its a baby sheep and asks about it. The girl taking care of it takes out a bottle and the sheep goes right up to her and starts drinking from it. Then Caillou says "The sheep is drinking from a bottle like Rosie used to!" ( his little sister for those who haven't seen the show ) I had wondered about Rosie too...guess I got the answer to my question: Ah heck its still a cute show but GEEZ!! I've seen similar things on other kids' shows, one that comes to mind was an episode of Roly Poly Olie on Disney back when we had cable. Why do people think children should be "shielded" from breastfeeding???? :

Man...and I had such respect for Caillou's parents too.

At least there's still Mister Rogers.

Good grief. I am TIRED of all of this. Sad thing is the ONLY show I've seen tackling these issues is Family Guy. THAT episode was WONDERFUL.

Was Mr. Rogers bf? At least he had warm cozy handknit sweaters to wear from his mama.

I didn't see the show but that is too bad that a good opportunity to show how mama animals care for their babies was missed. I am wondering about the sponsers of this show? I am suspicious enough to think maybe it is funded by formula companies.

There was a thread on here about a week or 2 ago that Mr. Rogers had an episode where they showed video of mammals feeding their young and ended with a mamma nursing her babe. I probably saw it as a kid, but I don't remember it. I guess I'll have to skip work and watch Mr. Rogers until I see that episode.

By the way, when I first saw this thread, I was thinking, Caillou? What on earth could have happened on Caillou to warrant a thumbs down? I should have known.

Roly poly olie is a robot. He drinks oil.

Cassiopeia, I didnt realize the bottom of your post was your siggie (serves me right for skimming) and thought Rolie Polie had oil with figs and bacon. Man, that had me confused for a moment!

And I fully support nursing on children's shows. But the idea of robots nursing squicks me a little. I read too much science fiction.

As it is I have to police the shows my kids watch, and it typically ends up leaving mostly PBS shows - but almost all of them show babies with bottles. Arthur and Sesame Street are the ones I notice the bottles on the most. Of course, PBS stations are frequently sponsored by Nestle via Juicy Juice...

There was pumped breastmilk in those bottles because Rosie's mom had nursing difficulties that, after seeing five different lactation consultants, could not be resolved.

Bob the Builder needs to face up to his real feelings and hook up with Wendy. Then they will have babies and live in a straw bale house in Sunflower Valley, and Wendy will ride Scoop with the baby in a sling, and nurse the baby while Bob builds more environmentally conscious sunflower oil plants.

For just a second, I was like, "Wow, how does she KNOW that!"

That I got it. You're joking right? Sorry, my brain is off today.

This gave me a wry smile - I HAD b'feeding difficulties with both kids and DID feed expressed breastmilk in bottles!! With the second I never even had to supplement, was able to pump exclusively for 13 months. But I only saw 2 LC's!! The experience did teach me not to judge too quickly when I see a "baba", although I don't know of too many crazies like me who pumped and bottlefed.

On a "Bear in the Big Blue House" episode, Bear talks about how baby mammals get milk from their mommies - but then Tutter the Mouse's baby cousin is shown with a bottle - a missed opportunity to enlighten!

I think the reference to Mr. Rogers is his episode with all the breastfeeding (and one bottle feeding) mamas. One of the moms has an exposed nipple with a baby latching one. If it's wholesome enough for Mr. Rogers you'd think Some People would get over it.
(It's an episode about food, they often show it around Thanksgiving.)

I do not enjoy Caillou.

the only thing about Caillou that I like it that his mom looks like a mom, belly and all!

I guess I shouldn't be surprised then that yesterday when dd was watching Clifford, after the show, Ms. Lisa (or maybe it's Lori) was talking about how Harrold could help his mom with the new baby. He could blah, blah, and get a bottle, as she holds one up.

I think I'm giong to have to start my own production company on my own little island if I'm going to avoid all the darn bottles.

Sus
