Hernia trouble again

It's hurting worse, and more often. Right now I'm half-laying on the couch shoving my belly button in as hard as I can. When I move or let go, it's excruciating. Last night I was taking a midterm and Bun moved up against my navel hard and I thought I was going to pass out.
I love everything about being pregnant except this.:

to you!! I hope you feel better soon...do they expect it to go away after your pregnancy or will you need to have surgery?

It should get better, as in feel better, but my Dr doesn't seem to think surgery will fix it if I'm going to have more kids. He said with each pregnancy I'll probably have the same problems. He pretty much said "deal with it."

It helps to know that this is *my* problem and that Bun is just fine and healthy, and at least it's not the other way around.

Hope you're feeling better now. I have had the hernia with the last three pregnancies. It's no fun. It does tend to get better for me around 30 weeks. Not sure why except maybe baby moves up or down or something? Anyway - it stinks and I really feel for you.

I am totally just butting in here (saw the thread on the "front page") but I just wanted to let you know my experience. I got a hernia when pg w/ #4. The dr never told me it wasn't a good idea to get the surgery, and I was in so much pain that I agreed. I was 5 months pg, and once it was done, I felt great and was so glad I had it done. But the actual surgery was excruciating. It took a lot longer than anticipated, and they couldn't give me too much sedative bc of the baby. And I felt the whole thing. It was very painful. And later another dr said she couldn't believe he had not asked me if I was planning to have more children. We were definitely open to more kids, and this dr said most drs won't do it if you're thinking of having more.

Again, sorry for barging in here, just wanted you to hear from someone who's btdt.

Good luck!

Liz

I have been having the same problem for some time now. Some days are just better than others. My midwife says it will get worse before it gets better. Some days my belly button area is black and blue with bruising, but that is all part and parcel with the umbilical hernia.
It's definitely not fun, but at least you can rest assured you're not the only one out there!
