Making my own sling...

I am talking the kind with a ring like a maya wrap. Is it easy? Anyone know where I can get a pattern?

I use this pattern: How to make an adjustable sling

but if you're using a thinner fabric, you could try the pattern at Sling Me, Mommy! with the fanning shoulder (I LOVE this!).

It is really really easy to make a ring sling. The first time it will take some time as you learn what works best for you, but with each successive sling, I decrease my amount of time and increase my quality.

This website has great instructions for making ring slings, as well as other types of slings. I made mine from this pattern and the way she recommends doing the shoulder pleats really distributes the weight well and makes it more comfortable. You can also find tons of information about babywearing, including lots of DIY stuff here.
