Baby Yasmeen is here!

Just a quick note to let you all know that our daughter was born on Sunday night and we arrived home yesterday. After some 24 hours of labor with an absolutely amazing support team, things suddenly went from 60 to zero. My labor stalled after what appeared to be a lengthy but progressive labor (vomiting, contrax getting closer and closer until they were on top of one another, etc). I hadn't wanted to know how far dialated I was, but my midwife said it was time I knew. I was only 4 cm and the baby was still high up, but her heartbeat was still strong and steady. The backup OB and the midwife gave us the option of trying pitocin or going with a cesarean. My gut instinct was to go for the cesarean. I had to wait a while since there was a shift change, but got a bit of rest with some stadol as my contrax petered out. No one told me right away, but I later learned that there was a window in my uterus and it was a good thing we didn't go for the pit.
So I'm feeling like I've been through the wringer, but trying to rest and enjoying our little flower!

Congratulations! I love Yasmeen's name. Hope that you are taking it easy and having a speedy recovery. It is amazing how our gut is true. We just need to listen. I am also curious to know what a window is.

Thank you, mamas! Yasmeen is doing well. She's a strong girl like her big sister Layla! Layla, who is 2, wants to hold Yasmeen all the time and is very sweet. But she is getting extra whiny and sulky with mommy and papa. How are other big brothers and sisters faring?

To answer your question - a window means that the tissue around the scar from my first cesarean was very thin. Or to quote the OB when I asked him about it, "very thin to nonexistent". If we'd tried to continue with the labor, I most definitely would have had a uterine rupture and possibly lost my uterus or much, much worse. I am eternally grateful that things slowed down when they did and that we didn't try the pitocin. If I were to get pregnant again, we'd do a planned repeat cesarean.
