Update: I've cultured positive for multi-drug-resistant staph. I'm actually kind of relieved because there's a clear treatment protocol, but I'm incredibly frustrated that my doctors are 1) totally unfamiliar with it, and 2) not too interested in hearing from me about it. I could just scream. There's finally help available and I can't figure out how to access it.

Gosh, you'd think in Boston they would be able to treat it! What about the Brigham?

My docs seem so stuck on weaning as the answer that they aren't even hearing me. They've never heard of culturing the milk. They've never heard of yeast in the ducts. They don't believe what I say and aren't looking it up themselves. I don't know what to do.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, sweetie. IF you decide to wean (& I'm glad you are looking into all the alternatives) I wish you all the best. (I'm sorry! My mastitis was so easily fixed, I feel guilty now for taking it for granted. )

I'm convinced this is treatable now that we know what it is, so I'm not weaning. I'm seeking appropriate treatment first.

This is getting so complex, I would talk to an LC and ask them to get involved with your docs. I would ask the LC to talk to Dr. Ruth Lawrence, a BFing expert and an MD, and see what her take on this is. She might even contact the docs directly, which could only be a good thing.
