Yay!! I finally feel like I made a difference!!!

Ok, well, its really just my 16yo sister, who admittedly has no kids and no plans to at the moment but,still...
She was with me when I was giving my boys a bath today, and, of course, they were both yanking on their little foreskins for all they were worth, so I turned to her and said, "Just promise me that if you have boys you won't circumcise them." She gave me that typical teenager "duh" look and said, "well I wasn't planning on it." Then she told me that when I had my boys and told everyone else why I wasn't circing them, she had decided that she wasn't either. We got into all the risks and myths about circumcision, all the stuff the foreskin does- "you mean that its, like, punishing his future partner, too?" and she's firmly in the no-circ camp now!!!
I actually feel like I started something! :

Sweet! I'm hoping to bring my 14 yo sister around when I have a boy (we're getting really strong boy vibes from this one...). I have a few years, but I'm hoping to bring up the topic sometime this Christmas while we're visiting. Not a topic I want to bring up over the phone...

love and peace.

That's awesome!
I haven't talked to my younger sister yet (she's 23) but I know she will just look at me like I have three heads.. but I plan to have the conversation at some point, anyway.

both my sister and dear sil are pretty convinced anti circ (my sil has been my bestest friend since childhood so she has been there for all my babies/stuff) but I don't kow about their dh's. I can definitely see the whole "wanting to look like me" thing, plus potentially spouting a whole lotta outdated scare tactics. These are two wonderful, lovely, hardheaded men....

my ds1 is from my previous marriage, so dh knew when we got together what I believed. But also, he is really laid back, reminds me of that circ parade quote someone's got on there siggy line. He's all "we won't be going and showing the neighbors a comparison, so wtf?"

~~~ Also, when I was pregnant with ds1 (4yo) and telling my family all the info re:circ, my lil brother(17 att?) looked at my mom in horror and said "what did you do to me?" The sex thing gets them every time. He has since changed his mind kind of, wanting his boys to look like him, but he isno where near having kids so we'll see....
See, I think the trick is to catch'em young. Little sis was only 12 when ds1 was born, and she told me that the idea of "cutting off his private parts totally grossed [her] out." When she heard the rest of us arguing about how it wasn't medically necessary (amazing what a kid can pick up, huh?) she decided that intact was ok.
I don't know how her future partner will feel, but she's pretty strong-willed- always has been!- so I she's not likely to cave to that "has to look like me" stuff.
See, that's fabulous! It squashes any myths she may hear and believe early on, so when she does (and oh, will she ever, unfortunately! lol), she'll know the truth... and hopefully even speak up to make the necessary corrections.
Yeah, "outta the mouths of babes". They can properly educated than adults in some cases (most cases?).
Way to go! And your sis has a level head on her shoulders. I'm proud of her, too.
That's great, I think I finally brought my sister around to not wanting to circ, but her husband is still firmly for it.
