Was anyone else irritated by the doctor who was "neutral" on HB 703 re: the LC's?

I could tell he went over the 3 minute mark last night but I was too busy yelling at him to figure out how long he talked. I watched him again this morning and he talked for over 5 minutes!!

According to this link, the bill is still pending in comittee.

Okay, I'm trying to get through Farrar's testimony and I'll be honest I'm frustrated by a lot of the waffling that I'm hearing. My stupid RealPlayer keeps freezing after about a minute, but at this point someone is pointedly asking if a Pastor asks a mother to cover herself or leave because her breastfeeding is offending someone (while in church), is he in violation?

Why doesn't Farrar just say "YES! HE'S IN VIOLATION!" Garrrrr

This isn't about covering up, or modesty. This is about a woman's RIGHT to breastfeed. Be it pastor, police officer, business manager... if they are in violation of the LAW they are in violation! Why is this so hard to admit?

I was at the hearing. Some of the questions were downright silly. That said, I think they understand more about the bills now.

The bills are still pending in committee as HB703 (the licensing bill) is being amended due to an issue with the doctors' group who wants the LC's brought under the medical board's review in order for them to support the bill - a total dealbreaker. They will probably be voted on at the same time when HB703 is finalized.

I was the one testifying when the question was asked about the blanket. :-)

Farrar has actually done a really good job with the committee. I met with some of the LCs pushing 703 after the hearing and we talked about it at length (these are the women who pushed the original BFIP statute throough the lege in 1995 and are in front of the lege every two years on some aspect or another of breastfeeding legislation). By all accounts, Farrar and her aides have done an absolutely incredible job getting the BFIP bill where it is. I believe she was intentionally treading very lightly with the committee, esp. WRT the church question.

That doctor was outrageous. When he stood up, I thought for sure he was going to say that he came over from one of the local hospitals, seeing as he was wearing his white coat. But no, he came all the way from Fort Worth to testify. I guess he wore the white coat so we wouldn't forget how important he is. And all that nonsense about how new moms just can't wait for their doctor visits because they have such a close and special relationship with their ped. I know that the anticipation of going to the ped is my favorite part of having a new baby!!! The LCs were also telling me afterward that there are others within the Texas Pediatric Association who have publicly disagreed with this doc's position.

When it comes down to it, though, the fact that the group was neutral and not negative is huge. The changes he asked for were relatively benign. And this is the first time they have had the bill before committee unopposed, so that is huge. Mead Johnson even showed up in support of both bills! Can you believe that???

Also, they couldn't have voted on either bill at the hearing because they lacked a quorum.

I know! I was rolling my eyes about the white coat thing too. So ridiculous.
