Since I am one of the few here who is not with family today, I thought I would share some stories with you all... BYW- I saw family yesterday, and will again tomorrow, spending x-mas at home alone with DH was a great choice!
1.) One of our rescue dogs had puppies a few days ago... almost a week early! Only two made it past the 1st 20min, and they have been weak. We have been formula feeding non-stop for two days, and they seem to be getting stronger. I also got a friend's dog who just had a litter, and we have been making her feed them (dog milk for dog babies!) Unfortunately, she does not want to raise them, but at least she will lay there for a few minutes and let them feed. Anyway, they will most likely not make it- the Mom tried to kill them, and the vet says it is b/c something is wrong with them... but we're trying our hardest to prove him wrong! Some extra prayers/thoughts would be great (not that they live, but for me to have strength!)
I think this would be easier, except that I am TTC, and losing a puppy feels like losing a child... or worse- like maybe I don't have children b/c I can't even keep a puppy alive. DH says that if they were human I would be fine, but that I wasn't made to care for puppies... either way, it stinks.
Also, I got human bottles for them b/c the nipples are the same size as their mom's! So, when I was at the store buying bottles and formula, I felt it necessary to tell the check-out girl that it was for puppies, lest she think I endorse giving it to babies!!! I am a little militant...
2.) At the family gathering last night I met a woman named Nicole, and she is my new hero! I somtimes shy away from bringing up crunchy topics with strangers, but I felt comfortable discussing things with her b/c she homeschools for non-religious reasons... turns out, her boys are non vaxed, intact, home schooled and gently disciplined!!! We had so much fun chatting... I swear, she and I were separated at birth! You never know where you'll find a crunchy mom
On the other hand, while working (at babies R Us... AKA Hell...) I met a woman who was carrying her newborn around in a Maya Wrap. I struck up a conversation with her, and I metioned something about a midwife, and she said, "What is a midwife?"
WTF?!?! The sellers of Maya Wraps should have some sort of test one must pass before they can purchase- T/F, of course:
*Vaccines are dangerous - true or false...
*Circ is purely cosmetic - t/f
*Midwives are an acceptable option, if you are having help at all... t/f
*Birkinstocks are comfy - t/f
*Homeschooled kids are lucky t/f
This way, everyone who babywears would be crunchy- it seemed like false advertisement for this woman to be wearing a baby, yet be totally mainstream...
Okay, enough for now... I just thought I would share some things with my fellow ttc-ers... hope something brightened your day
Have a great Christmas/Chanuka/Zwanza/Eid/Festivus!
