Salvia, those are beautiful pictures!

Oh, you know I still can't let go of the timing thing. If tomorrow is Yule, then tonight is Yule evening, whihc means tonight I should light the candle, and then tomorrow we'd open gifts, but D isn't home, so we'll have to wait until Friday. I just feel like if I light the candle Thursday night, I will have missed it. D told me that he thinks Thursday would be the longest night, since it is the night that is closest to the moment of solstice. Why do I need to be such a stickler for details and have to do everthing by the book?

Really, I should just be happy that D will be home on Friday. Like Valerie, I should be glad this is the worst thing I have to worry about.

All I had to do was look at my last post about the timing and check out the link and I reassured myself at least a bit. I need to stop overthinking things!

Actually, Pam, my calendar marks Dec 22 (at 12:34 am) as Winter Solstice this year. That should work just fine.

Man, mamas, I am really saddened. I just need a hug, I think.
I posted about it in my blog, but there are threads in TAO. It is making me not care about ANYTHING other than spending time with dh and the kids. You. Never. Know.
That said, we are celebrating Mother Night (today) here, so I will soon be starting the prep for our feast! I hope all of the other heathens and Asatruar have a wonderful start of Yuletide!

Solstice/Yule is all about celebrating the return of the light...So, I think it's fine to celebrate from now til the end of the month. ...and beyond. LOL

You, too, Emily! I'm hoping to leave work early today to get a jump on feast prep, but it's year-end closing and the stack on my desk is getting bigger every day. : Regardless, it'll be a wonderful celebration. I'm looking forward to some family time.

Best to you and yours ...

I agree!

We all watched Polar Express last night for the first time (yes, we are slow). What fun!

I am so stuffy again! But the weather is still nice and my house is in full prep mode for the coming events!

I am going to make bread in a bit and give the kids a bath. dd4 has a pj party and they are watching ploar express.

When I read about the mdc mom who lost her husband I blinked as if what I was reading couldn't be right. I figured my eyes were playing tricks on me. so tragic!!!!

I can't keep up with this thread, but in case I don't get the chance, I wanted to jump in and say happy yule!!!!!

I hope your families have a fun time together.

Ok I'm sure its in the 22odd pages somewhere... but did I miss a brief explanation of what mother night is? And here I thought I was making an admirable effort at keeping up too

Hi all!

This is a very beautiful night: the sky is clear and the stars are amazing! Peaceful and inspiring!

Gratitude: I too read the thread in TAO : then I went with DS to his casting this afternoon and met a fellow homeschooler - I knew she had some problems with her DCs father... they were seperating and he wanted to put the kids back to school... but I last heard about it in Oct.-Nov. so I asked her how things were going... Well, she told me he was dead: commited suicide on Nov.28 We talked for a little while and I left after letting her know she could email me if she wanted to talk...

I look at my life and wow! I shall stop and enjoy the moment more often because it's NOW that count...

Hi again.

It's raining here tonight, but I still went for my nightly walk, and I focused a lot on the rain and how it was the longest night of the year. I love seeing all the houses lit up for Christmas, so I keep changing my route to see more houses. I'm going to try to get up in the morning to sit in the porch swing and watch the sunrise. It won't be quite the same if it's still raining, but I'll try any way.

Things have been falling into place here lately, almost eerily so. DH and I have been tackling so many house and yard projects, I've been keeping on top of housework and cooking, I've been getting DD outside to play almost every day. We've had some house and car repairs come up, but they have been easy fixes and we've come into a little bit of money at the same times. DD and I started feeding the birds a couple weeks ago, and it is so soothing to me; I also found out that each fall, I have access to unlimited free sunflower seeds and corn. It's a little early to take a pregnancy test (10 dpo), but even if I'm not pregnant, then I'm finally having my first seemingly normal luteal phase. It all makes me a little paranoid that Murphy is waiting to ambush me, but I'm trying to just soak it all in and feel blessed.

A little early, but I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Yule for tomorrow! In addition to watching the sunrise, DD and I will make some extra treats for the birds and squirrels, cranberry-popcorn garlands, peanut butter-bird food pinecones, and some stale bread. I also found a couple children's books at the library about winter and the returning warmth, so we'll read those. Then, DH is coming home early from work! For supper, I'm planning to make a big pot of chili, mandarin oranges, some kind of vegetable, Yule-themed sugar cookies that we baked today, and......a chocolate Yule log cake! We're also going to do a candle lighting ceremony and then burn a Yule log. It'll be our first fire in the fireplace in quite a while, so it'll be even more special. I'm really excited, and I'm going to try to relax and enjoy it before the craziness of Christmas weekend.

Hi, all! Can't stay long tonight to catch up on everything, hope everyone is doing well, I'll try to spend some time tomorrow and really check in, but just had to share pics of our Yule Surprise I'll snap another pic in the morning, it is showing no signs of letting up yet : Yoiks!

Happy Almost Yule!!!

Yikes! Do you suppose jewelry and hats count? I got DH and DS matching knit hats from a mama on my congo group, but I got Peanut a butterfly bracelet and he "got me" (as in, I told him, BUY THIS ) a black pearl necklace from a wahm on another congo I'm in....eeeek!
I know the hats are good... but I think your in trouble with the jewelry!
I think I am done for. The kids are all getting new jammies and DH got a motorcycle jacket... So it is just me. BOOHOO! Maybe I can put my new dish towel on me somewhere.

Zavierchick: Which part of the country do you live in? That is some serious snow! We got a bit here on our moutian. We can see it from our front window. It looks so nice. I hope we can make it up there this season and the kids can play in the snow a bit!

shoot! well, let's see, I was planning on making a fleece cape for Peanut, not really for a gift, just a necessity, but I could probably finish it tomorrow by sundown, but I guess you and I are done for

we are in Denver, CO- land of the blizzard warning tonight- 10-20 inches expected I was cracking up at weather.com earlier today, all it had to say was "blizzard warning" in big letters at the top of the page...."um, yup, I can see that, could you be a tad more specific?"

What is anyone making for Yule Dinner? My choices are now going to be a bit more limited, I intended on grocery shopping tomorrow, which I'm thinking may be a bit hazardous, so we're going to be drawing on the freezer and pantry a bit I just got a new book on Sabbat Entertaining, it is in our bedroom, and the kids are sleeping, so I won't go grab it now, but looks like it might be fun (dang amazon.com, I always end up spending more there than I should!)

WOW! 10-20 MORE inches! That is nuts. I wish we could get some snow... but just a little. Maybe 3 inches. Enough to make a snow man and snow angels.
I grew up in Portland Oregon and every few years we would get a good snow. I remember my dad making a fort out of snow. That was cool, and sledding down the neighbors driveway on a frizbee whipping out into the street. Crazy!

I hereby authorize this activity...carry on

Just wrapped DH's pressies with the boys (yikes that makes it a lot more work)..we got him some manly cologne stuff and a firestaff/set of poi! Got his brother a fire stick as well, he'll be stoked. My hunny is from a line of salamanders apparently hehe. I shall be up at the bum crack of 3:45am to greet the sun as it rises...and I shall of course have a cuppa to hail the sun with as he hands the year over to shorter days (bout time too.. sun is up by 4am here now and still up at 7pm lol) We will be spending a little time taking the kids for a christmas lights drive (solstice tradition for us!) and making a few stops along the way to drop home baked yummies to several of my friends to spread a little seasonal cheer... and calories
