Peeking out of the dark in the Pacific NW

Hi. Just thought I'd take a minute to and say hi to everyone here. We've been out of power since Thursday night after the big windstorm out here. What a drag.

So most everything for us is on hold here. We're staying with some people we just met at our UU church this Sunday. Looks like it could be anywhere from Friday to Monday for us to get power again in our area. There are still trees all over the place hanging on the power lines.

But at least we have a warm, friendly, kid-friendly, dog-friendly place to stay. Thankful for that.

Don't know when I'll get another chance to check my email again. But I did want to check in here. I'm still planning to go to the Solstice celebration at church whether they have power on Friday or not.

Happy Solstice! Many blessings to you all.

We all watched Polar Express last night for the first time (yes, we are slow). What fun!
You're not the only one! We just watched it earlier this month!

Starflower: Just had to say from the Pacific SW, that it sounds like you found (albeit unexpectantly) the perfect Yule situation -- friends, food, and fesitivities (of sorts!) .

Hey, our weather is down to 38 degrees F tonight. I'll shut up now.. :

Well just wanted to pop in and say

Happy Solstice!

as it's now after midnight, PST. I know, we get official solstice at 4:22pm, but I'll be at work in the middle of a program then (just 2 hours off my vacation time... )

We'll be doing a Solstice breakfast. I'm hoping to be up most of tonight and probably get up early to watch the sunrise tomorrow. I've got this waiting in the fridge to bake tomorrow ( ), and I'll be making us some hot mexican chocolate. Yay vacation days from work!

Happy Solstice!

Not making a Yule dinner. I hate cooking.
Having a friend over though and she'll have some snacks. LOL.
We'll be making pomanders. Yay.
The kids will be running around together screaming with glee.
I'll put on Loreena. Or Shawn Colvin. Or.... James Taylor.

Um, I don't even have my tree up yet. I told myself that it's not going up until I have FINISHED cleaning. At this rate, it'll go up on Saturday. rofl.

My office party got moved from yesterday to tonight. So I get to hang out with friends and not cook. I love the fact that my company always includes my son as well as SO on the invitation to the holiday party, so we'll be together.

I wish you all a very happy and blessed Winter Solstice!

I had a night full of very strange and rather dark dreams. I may have had a slight fever or maybe it is not a good idea to read Coyote tales right before sleeping.

The Yule Cat is new to me. The kiddos are getting pjs today, but nothing for dh and I...are you sure jewelry doesn't count?

Starflower~ wow! still without power! I'm really happy you and the family have found a freindly place to stay.

Brenda~ what beautiful snow! Enjoy!

Heket~ yummy strata...might have to make it.

So the shortest day came,
and the year died,
and everywhere down the centuries
of the snow-white world
came people singing, dancing
to drive the dark away.
They lighted candles in the winter trees,
They hung their homes with evergreens;
They burned beseeching fires all night long
to keep the year alive.
And when the new year's sunshine blazed awake
they shouted, revelling,
through all the frosty ages you can hear them
echoing, behind us—listen!
All the long echoes sing the same delight,
this shortest day,
as promise wakens in the sleeping land:
they carol, feast, give thanks,
and dearly love their friends, and hope for peace.
And so do we, here, now,
this year, and every year.
Welcome Yule!

Happy and blessed Solstice to all!

The sky is clear and the Sun is bright! I have a lot of cooking and cleaning to do but I'll try to go out with the kids just to enjoy being in the Sun!

Tonight, we'll eat a meat pie and, if DD2 let me cook, some Sun shaped cookies. I forgot to buy chocolate to make my hot chocolate : I'll have to call DH to ask if he can get some before coming home after work

Merry Solstice!!

So, this is what I get for wishing for a white Christmas....

I'm not sure what we are going to do today yet...I had ordered a nifty little Yule kit from one of the other mamas on my congo, but it didn't make it here in time (and I don't believe they will be delivering mail today ) I desperately want to do a cleansing on our house, we have lots of icky vibes, I think just from the stress we have both been under lately, and the anticipation of upcoming changes. I suppose we can still do one, it will just be a bit "bracing" to open windows right now

Salvia- sorry about your dark dreams, nights like that always make me edgy the next day!

Starflower- so glad you have a place to be right now, our thoughts are with you! It actually sounds like a lot of fun to be with others!

I had more to say, but the kids are pulling on me, and DH just got a disturibing call of some sort from my little brother Better go find out what that is all about!

Blessings!!

Happy Solstice!!!

my 3 yr old DD made a birthday card for the Sun today "to welcome the sun back"... she thought the nicest thing she could do to welcome the sun is to make it a birthday card .. oh, and because the sun doesn't have hands, we'll just have to hold on to the card for it

so nice when they understand, huh?
Salvia, I loved the picture in your card! I'm in the SCA, so it looked very medieval!

I still have a few cards to get out

Happy Solstice Everyone!

Hope we get some of that snow. It's too warm here, it feels wrong.

Yule cat? I musta missed that post.

I had a small birthday party for ds today. His best friend came and he was so incredibly thrilled to see her. They don't get together often because she's in preschool full time (5 days/wk, til 5pm).
Another friend came too for a little while. It's funny, the little boy always remarks about how I didn't clean certain parts of the house. It's like Felix and Oscar when they are together. rofl.

We shall attempt making pomanders after I wash more dishes. I honestly don't know how I'm going to have everything cleaned by Saturday morning. Ugh.

Yuck Starflower! Glad you are safe & comfortable at least! I used to have a mountain of handfasting links but I can't find em anymore

No greeting the sun on it's longest day for me... woke up to RAIN! Good thing and a bad thing I guess, spoiled my plans BUT we are in the worst drought in 100yrs so I'll take any wet stuff I can get out there! Happy Solstice y'all

Happy Solstice, everyone!

Well, we were GOING to have our annual Yule celebration tonight--had invited friends over, planned a fire in the outdoor firepit, etc. But I am sick, sick, sick . . . I spent all of yesterday collapsed on the couch, nursing and cuddling DD and watching her play. My fever broke in the night, but I still feel terrible--and now DH is starting to feel it as well! So, we may be skipping the family festivities over the weekend in favor of recuperating. Well, at least it will give us a good excuse to stay home!

I hope everyone has a lovely Yule. I'm going to curl up under a blanket and drink lots of water and EmergenC; fortunately DH had taken the day off, so he is here to help with DD and bringing food.
