5 yr old just noticed difference

My 5 yr old ds came into the bathroom the other night as dh was getting out of the shower. He got real quiet and then said matter of factly, "Your pee pee looks just like ____(a circ'd friend of his.)" Dh is circ'd. And even though I was in the room, I let dh explain it to him. Very simple terms but ds got the point of what circ is and he was happy to not have it done to his pee pee. I thought for a long time he just thought dh's was different because he was an adult and it was bigger. But then a few weekends ago we visited some friends whose ds is circ'd and ds did see his penis (he peed outisde) but I guess he was wondering why HIS penis looked different and the other boy's looked like daddy's. It was neat I guess to see he KNOWS there's a difference and hopefully will not harm his ds should he have any.

I'm glad he took it ok. Sounds like you handled it well. How did your DH handle it?

He did really well. We've never hidden it from ds but it's also not something we just chat about with him. I knew one day we would have this conversation and hopefully we'll have a more mature one when he is older.

oooh, interesting that it wasnt til age 5. dh and i have talked about how we will deal with this. i assumed it would be a lot sooner than 5, but good point about assuming adult vs young kid difference. glad it went well!
