A Good Babyshower Experience - finally!

I was at a babyshower today for my friend's second baby, and there were 4 other babies there. All were being breastfed openly (including a set of twins), all were being held and interacted with, and my friend wasn't given any baby neglect products! In fact, one of her friends gave her a bra that holds the breast pump on for you! And I heard a conversation of a woman talking about having natural childbirth, and how wonderful it was. And this was not a particularly 'crunchy' crowd either.

One woman was talking about traveling by plane and was talking about how her 1 year old had just weaned (on her own) the previous week, but when they were taking off and she was crying, the mom was desperately trying to get her to nurse again to comfort her and help her ears! (But apparently the baby just wasn't interested.)

It was so nice to see - it made me wish I had a nice group of mommy friends like that.

That's so good to hear! I would LOVE to go to such a shower. The most recent one for me was for my new SIL and it was full of, as you so aptly say, "baby neglect" items. I must say, though, how satisfying it was to finally be able to comfortably give a wooden rattle (along with my a baby sweater/booties/cap set, knit by my mother) to a good friend and have her say "Oh, how beautiful!" instead of "What is this?".:
I know, I want more friends like that, too (like at your friends shower). Not that my current friends are not cool, they're actually quite wonderful. Just not all into non-mainstream as much as I am. Oh, well, good to have good friends anyway!

nice baby shower!

for my ds (my only baby) i had a simple lunch at one of my favorite restaraunts. there awere no other parents there f young children. next time i guess i'll know more people with kids. i actually included a little helpful guidance in my invites-

"when he's ready, tritan will play with wooden or cloth all natural toys"
"we will be using cloth diapers from Tiny Tots Diaper Service..."
"please buy used gifts from one of the many used baby stores in the area..."

and so on. so people kind of got the hint. except my mother, who never gets the hint. she thinks polyester is not plastic (?!).

anyway, sounded like a cool experience. a couple of months ago i was at LLL (and of course, you expect this there) and there was a mother of nursing 1 yr old twins there, chatting away, and the twins would take turns walking up to her, pulling out a boob, and nursing it. it was soooo cute, and the mamma never skipped a beat in the conversation. i felt so comfortable, like i was in the right crowd!

I was at that LLL meeting too and it was so cool to see! Anyway, I jumped in to say that I am so excited for you to have been at that shower. SIL recently had a shower and I had dd in the sling pretty much the whole time. I was one of the hosters and so I helped clean up and eveyrone just thought I was the magic lady when I slid it around onto my back and did the dishes. Everyone kept saying, "Gee SIL, you better have Lauren make you one of those!!" It was great. She didn't get too many devices either, no one would buy her the bouncer she wanted, lol, they must be spoiled from me. SIL will do well though.

funny, i thought it was just me who got depressed at baby showers. i've come home from several just feeling so sad, like "ugh, none of you get it!" i seriously thought it was just me, but no ...i see as usual i'm in good company here on these boards. glad to see some of you have had positive experiences at showers.
