what's the best type of sling/ carrier? any advice?
I carried my then 11 month old in my pouch sling on my hip: Not the best thing but I couldnt afford a different carrier. He kinda sat on my ribcage at the end because I was so big. I would get a mei tai you can carry your toddler on your back, or if you can afford one a structured back carrier like the Ergo for more support.

wouldn't the waist strap be a problem?

How about an onbu? Similar to a MT but without the waist strap.

ETA: Sachi and Freehand make some beautiful ones.

The onbu worked great for me when I was pregnant. I could wear my toddler on my back and knot the straps above my waist. This is me wearing my 19 month old DS on my back in the onbu when I was 6 months pregnant with DD. It quickly became my favorite carrier!

I did a back carry with my Mai Tai. You can tie the belly strap however you need to.

nak

I wore my dd in my maya wrap ring sling unti lthe end on my hip for short trips and in my Kozy carrier for longer trips. the kozy was awesome with my preggo belly - it is completely adjustable. I tied the waist strap above my belly and it worked great. i wore her until i was 8 months preggo and she is 27lbs. new baby was 10lb 14oz so it didn;t hinder her growth at all having my toddler on my back - ha ha...hth

I carry my 22 pound toddler very comfortably in a rucksack carry on my back. For short trips, she loves being in a ring sling on my front (facing me, up high kinda sitting on her sister), but for trips to the store I like a back carry so she's not so grabby!
