I've found that some colors run a lot and I have to rinse them a bunch (reds, oranges, yellows) and some don't run hardly at all (blues)

That's funny because the colors I used were red and orange.I'm trying to remember the flavor names.Dark cherry was one but I don't rember what flavor the orange was.

I use the procion and wash with their heavy duty cleaner first - per their recommendation.

Those who do: do you think it hold the dye better if you wash first? And those who don't, do you think it works fine if you don't?

Can you get an orange color in some flavor other than orange? We got red with the strawberry, tropical punch, and black cherry and they're all still running.

The only one of mine (of ten silks all different colors) that isn't bleeding is yellow.

So has anyone turned still bleeding silks loose to their children without ending up with red furniture?

One friend did wash her red silk to see if that would stop the bleeding and it just turned it pink (but I bet the bleeding stopped!). The Dawn is a good idea, I'll have to pick some up.

Any thoughts on why the hot water causes bleeding but cold doesn't? What a chemistry lesson!

And....

Has anyone tried using salt with the Kool Aid™?

That's what I was originally curious about. At the time I was dying time was more important than color. But for next time I thought maybe washing first would hold the color more.Hmmm?Anyone tried both ways?

My black cherry is a light pink. But it's a pretty pink.I guess if you're not going for pink that doesn't really matter.

To tell the truth I asked my husband to pick up the colors/flavors so I wasn't sure if there were multiple orange flavors.Funny thing though..... the big thing in the store he went to was invisible kool-aid.

Sorry, it was just some boring off-white Brown Sheep worsted weight yarn.

So what exactly is invisible Kool Aid? Is it just dye free? I almost bought a packet just to try! Interesting that you got pink with black cherry because it turned red for us - very red, similar to strawberry and tropical punch. Makes you want to avoid injesting the stuff like the plague!

Oh,that's ok.I was thinking about trying to dye some for my MIL but I don't really know anything about yarn.I thought maybe there was some awesome place that people bought their yarn from.

Yeh,I guess it's just dye free for people who actually aren't trying to dye there kids clothes -HA!

FYI, Knitpicks has some dyeable yarn that looks very nice. They have great prices for high quality yarn, and shipping if very reasonable ($2, I think.)
