Flannel pocket hand warmers....

I'm wondering if anyone thinks this would work....
I have LOTS of flannel and am kinda stuck for a gift idea for FIL. He owns a commercial landscaping co and is outside A LOT. I know he uses those pocket hand warmers that you squeeze and they get hot, I was thinking of making him a reusable version that he can use when working outside at home, maybe on the job site or at the warehouse...
kinda like an eye pillow, but a small square that would fit in a pocket to warm the hands...
flannel on the outer, rice or feed corn for the filling, microwave before going outside...
Think it would work?? Good idea or no?? Would the heat last long enough???

I think its a great idea!
I've done this in a larger version for DD to use when sledding. How long the heat lasts depends on how well insulated it is when in use, and how hot it was to start with but in a jacket pocket I would think you could easily get an hour or two of warmth.
