You know those toasty bags you can put in the oven or microwave to get hot? I've heard of rice, wheat and buckwheat....does anyone know which is best? I've sewn my daughter her own for Christmas and I just need to fill it!

My mom gave me this for Christmas and I absolutely love it. Gorgeous illustrations and very sweet ideas inside. Plus it's just structured enough so that I can be creative about what I include...

This is the prettiest carrier, and fit my shoulders and figure (at 5'6") much better than the Ergo. I got it when my daughter was about nine months, two years ago - it doesn't appear to have...

This potty is great - excellent value & performance! (plus it's cute!) My 9 month old DS took to it right away. He is a big boy (30 in. tall - feet not quite on floor - & 27 lbs.) and this is...

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

I use rice, but have heard that feed corn holds heat longer so i might use some of that to try it out, I have made a few of these already with rice and lavendar and they are just fantastic, fyi though you might want to zig zag straight stitch and also turn and top stitch cuz the rice gets a little heavy which puts pressure on the seams and tends to start to come undone...good luck they are very easy and lots of fun!

i use wheat berries, short grain rice or dried lentils ..i like the feeling of all of them a lot.
i like flax seeds for eye pillows and bean bags..they have a smoother, softer feeling i think.
experimenting is always the best.. see what feels nice to you..sometimes you want something that feels kind of heavy, sometimes not..
also natural kittie litter works really well for big, longones to use as draft stoppers for doors

I use feed corn and it works really well. I had heard that wheat and especially linseed can actually get hot enough to combust if they aren't kept moist enough. The worst that happens to corn in my experience is that if it gets waaay too hot it pops!

I have made several with the deer feed corn and I love them. They hold heat well and smell like popcorn when you use them the first few times. I also keep a couple in the freezer for when a cold pack is needed. I used scrap cotton material I had in the house and got a 40-pound bag of corn at Wal-Mart for $4. I have made them as gifts for several people and the corn stores well in lidded buckets (I use the buckets that my cat litter comes in) so I am keeping some on hand encase I need to make more gifts before the holidays. I even have a couple of them in my bag for the hospital when my baby decides he wants to be born (I am in week 41 of my pregnancy).
