My appetite is crap...

Ever since we had our stomach bug, my appetite has gone down the toilet. I'm not nauseated, or having any symptoms anymore, I just don't feel like eating. Normally this is not a problem - I seem to have turned into a "eat to live" person, rather than my usual "live to eat". I can't even be tempted by my usual favorites. Nothing sounds good! And this is difficult, because I'm trying to follow Brewer's diet, with 80-100 grams of protein per day, and it's really hard to eat all of what I'm supposed to.

But I don't think it's a good idea to force feed myself either. I figure, if I need the food, I'll be hungry, isn't that the way it works with babies and kids and everyone else?

Sorry eating has become a chore! I usually take a few days after feeling no longer nauseated with a stomach virus before my appetite returns. I try jump starting it by having just a few small bites of something that doesn't seem offensive (like soup,) whenever I'm offering my daughter food, even though I'm not hungry. I feel like my nutrition was necessarily neglected long enough through the illness, and if I'm not mindful I'll fall into eating irregularly and not terribly nutritiously after getting so off-kilter.

With my last preg I was borderline gestational diabetic, so my doc put me on the diet as a precaution, and I got SO tired of eating. I just felt like a cow with my 3 meals and 3 snacks and balance of protein and carbs and etc etc. Ug.

Also, the baby could be sitting on your stomach. And aren't we supposed to get less hungry and gain less weight after about 29 or 30 weeks anyway?

the best thing for your body after a bout of stmach virus is yogurt or kefir.

your whole GL tract is out of whack and it helps it get back on track again.

it's not unusual for your appetite to wane in the 3rd trimester. it's even normal for you to lose a few pounds the last month or so.

but it is important baby have enough nutrients to grow, so focus on high-nutient foods as much as possible. and give your body some time to recover.
