Our Sweet Baby is Here!

After 38 hours of labor, our little sweetie is here!

Eva Dawn was born November 29 at 4:11 PM.
Weight: 6 lbs 2 oz
Length: 19 inches

After 5 rounds of cervical softner and only dilating to a 3 in 37 1/2 hours, I was threatened with a C Section. So, I had a good cry and talked with several docs about the c-section process. I finally came to grips with it being okay to do, rolled over and took a small nap. While napping, I dreamed that I had a lot of pressure down there...the nurse noticed a different heart rate on the baby, so came in to check me. She couldn't believe that I had dialated from a 3 to a 10 AND gone from a -3 to crowning in less than 30 minutes! After she checked me, I felt the urge to push, but my doc wasn't there yet. We did a 1/2 push to see how things were going, and I was told to STOP! The doc got there a few minutes later, I pushed through about 5 contractions and her heart rate dropped to 50 bpm. One more push and a quick episiotomy and she came FLYING out. The doc actually had to CATCH her in the air. Yikes. She wasn't breathing and was very limp...so no tummy time to clean her. She went straight to the warmer where they got her "going". Everything is perfect with her!

We had a high risk of Downs, and she checks out great. She's a great nurser, especially for a 37 weeker. And she only lost 3 oz while we were in the hospital.

BTW we induced at 37 weeks because of my PIH and her failing to thrive in the womb.

Congratulations! It's wonderful that you were able to avoid the c-section and your body knew what to do. She sounds like a good size for a baby they were worried about.

She does sound like a very good sized little one for 37 weeks! Don't you just love it when they tell you to STOP PUSHING--that is the most difficult, painful, part of the whole thing for me... with ds#2 I totally freaked when they told me to wait for the doc to get her gloves on or whatever she was doing (adjusting a light?!?) and YELLED--- I can't WAIT!

enjoy you little one! glad it all went well!

Pretty name! And she isn't SO small. Your story is encouraging for those with long labors that seem to be going nowhere. When Eva was ready to go, she was READY.
