VIntage Child's Singer - is this worth it?

Can anyone here help me decide if this Child's Singer sewing machine is any good?!

Here are some pictures:

The only number on the model is 155183. Where can I find out more about this model?

How much would a machine like this usually sell for? There is a rust spot on the plate, which I presume doesn't effect workability, but not sure how it effects the value. The seller is asking $40.

What other info. should I know about these machines before thinking of buying?

TIA

Do you want to use it or is it just fo pretty?

I had one sort of like that when I was a kid and it's no faster than sewing by hand. (my wasn't so cute though.)

If you just want an antique to put on display I think it is adorable . Off hand the price sounds good to me.

Definately want my kids to be able to use it. I'm not in to antique collecting, though of course I would treat (and teach my kids to) treat it with care, regardless.

I forgot to mention that I'd have to pay for shipping as well, and that's going to be pretty expensive I imagine!

Would you recommend any of child's sewing machine? I'm too new to this to know what would actually work.

Thanks for much for your reply BTW

I'm afraid I haven't looked at one designed for children since I was 13 and got my first real grownup one.

Depending on your kids you might consider a used basic model or one of those mini ones for scrapbooking.

It's about $25 to ship a regular machine accross the US. The problem is making sure that they are packed very well, in a big box with lots of padding between the machine and the outside world.

I would actually go for a regular vintage Singer, like a 400 or 500 series machine from the 50's and 60's. You can use them without the power cord as a hand crank, or use the pedal. They would give you more machine for the kids to grow into, and they have more attachments.

My Grandmother gave me her first sewing machine when I was a child. It was great! The problem? I can't find any needles that fit it anymore!! Once I broke the pack that she sent me, all the needles I have found have been to long for it. It is now a pretty decoration in my sewing room.
