felting wool jersey??

I have some wool jersey that I'm thinking about felting (just to get a thicker texture- I bought a poncho that is boiled wool, and I think it is wool jersey...I love it) but I'm not sure how much shrinkage to expect. If it is goingto shrink by like 50% or more it's probably not worth it. anybody know how much wool jersey will shrink?

I am not sure about jersey, but some wool interlock I felted shrunk by a third, both in length and width.

How much any given fabric shrinks is hard to predict b/c there are tons of variables (how tight the knit; how thick the thread; what kind of sheep; how it was dyed; etc.) The best way to determind how your fabric will shink is to cut out a 4" x 4" square and go ahead and felt it (my favorite way to felt fabric is to throw it in the washer and dryer on high.)

I have felted wool jersey and it shrinks a good deal, I couldn't tell you exactly how much as I didn't measure it before and after. I think it really depends on how much you felt it. I *superfelted* it which is when you take ALL of the stretch out of it. I washed it on hot and dried on hot a few times and it really thickened it up.
