Singer Tiny Serger help

Thread Starter
Anyone used one of these or know anything about it?

What I basically want is just something so I can make napkins, tablecloths, dishtowels, and the odd skirt for my DD. I have a pretty basic sewing machine. I don't really have the money to buy a "full-scale" serger and honestly, I'm a beginner and not surehow much I'd even use a serger (since I have a full-time job and an art career not in sewing and a 2 year old to balance) so I thought the Tiny Serger might be a fun compromise.

Would it allow me to do the basic things I'm interested in?

Thanks!

Here is what I found:

What about the Singer Tiny Serger?
Many people on the sewing newsgroups complained that they felt that this machine was of very poor quality and did not produce adequite results. However, one reader did state that she felt that it was usable for minimal purposes of finishing fabric edges, although she did not feel it acceptable for general serger use.
It doesn't, actually, seem to have a knife.

What kind of sewing machine do you have? Some machines have a special overlock foot that does the same thing as a serger. Fr light limited use the Tiny might be ok, but if the material was too tick or too many layers then I don't think you'd be happy with it.

I know this is a very old thread and most likely you have already made up your mind, but I have to say, when I started sewing wipes I borrowed my friend's tiny serger and I LOVED it. Yes, it's a toy, all plastic, no knife, but it got the job done (one layer of flannel and one of terry) although it wasn't a tight stitch. The wipes I made with it 3 years ago are still functioning. Now I have a real serger that I find much harder to use and still remember fondly using the "toy".
