I'm curious if the cost of living affects those members who view this forum.

I think it's more a matter of big city/small city/town/rural than region, in many ways.

But I also don't think Maryland is the "north."

And actually I was looking for Northeast.

Hmmmm....

Region might affect the actual numbers we're crunching, but we all have the same basic things to work with.

Where's the rest of Idaho?
(not that I mind north being included and south not, but still...)

midwestern girl here.

I am just outside of Washington DC....so I didn't know what area to pick. We are in VA, but definitely not a southern area like one would imagine. It's very urban and very expensive, but it's where my dh's job is, so here we are.

Midwest. But it's the rural Midwest, and the cost of living here is much lower than in Chicago.

I don't think Maryland is the North either. We're in New England.

I agree that it's more rural vs city. The cost of living is much higher in the Boston area or the "New York part" of CT than it is here in the hills.

Northeast, New England here. Things are rather expensive...except for the maple syrup I suppose!

Up till 6 weeks ago I lived in beloved Idaho

I now live in California. The part of Cal we live in the property is : The food is higher than I am use to paying but them I am use to ordering from Azure and so to get the same stuff I have to hit TJ and healthfood stores

I live in CA so I marked west. I may just be bitter and broke right now but I don't think you can group CA, NV, and UT together. I think the Cost of living is way more in CA than the other two states. I would say the CA, OR, and WA are closer in living costs. Sorry about the rant, I'll stop now.

I am in northern New England in a low cost of living/ crappy job oppurtunity type of place.

Yeah, me too - when I lived in WA state I used to find that there was always "west" and southwest but no northwest in pollls, but there was always a northeast.

Canada.

I'm in DFW, Texas...sometimes classified as Southwest, sometimes the South. Very low cost of living.

In FL here, the cost of living used to be low here. Sadly it has gotten insane, even worse wages haven't gone up to meet the new increased cost of living.

We bought our house for 124,000...now it would be around 315,000 if we wanted to buy it today. Home insurance used to be cheaper...around 850...now it's up to 1700. Taxes (thank you save our home law) have stayed the same for us...around 2200....but if we moved to the same size home in a different neighborhood worth the same it would be 5600.

So, we're stuck in our house, but happy. Don't get me started on how much we pay for health insurance. DH just found out TODAY that they're raising it another 1200 a year...:

I'm so steamed as we pay so much!: Now, it's going to be over 7 grand a year...DH now thinks we should move up having another baby to get our money's worth: .

Where's the Northeast? New England represent!

COL is pretty high in CT, although it varies by city/town, as a PP mentioned. (Lots of Connecticutians on MDC, I've noticed. That's a high crunch factor for such a small state. Awesome!)

We get by, mostly, as a family of 4 on an income of ~$32K. That would be ridiculously impossible if we hadn't gotten an amazing deal on a mortgage and in Middletown, we're one of three families that have gotten this kind of deal in the last decade or so. So it was a stroke of luck. But we're still living above our means using credit cards, Husky, and WIC to get by, with no savings or cushion, and we live pretty frugally.

DH is desperately trying to find a better paying job that's also closer to home, as his car just died, and I'm trying to launch a WAHM business to help with the bills. whee~
