So in all honestly...when the water breaks, how long before going to hospital?

My water had broken with 2 of my children. 1st one broke just before 8pm, and he wasn't born until 1:55am. I didn't go to the hospital though until about 10pm. No reason really why I went that early. Just thought I better. I was having no contractions yet, or anything.

With the 2nd one, it broke about 12:45am, and she was born at 4:06am. Again, I went before anything really started...I arrived about 2am.

With both, nothing started until they gave me pitocin. Then it all started! Both were born less then an hour after being started on it.

With my 1st child, my OB broke my water at 8am, and when he gave me the pitocin at about 1pm, he was born at 1:32pm. 2 of my other children, labor started its self, and with #6, I was (scheduled) induced. I am being induced this time as well only because of the distance if he isn't born by 12-27. :

I am 5 hrs away from my OB/hospital. I do have a hospital close to me, but I know none of the OB's here. If I have to go here, I will, but I rather try to make it to my OB/hospital.

So, would you risk driving 5 hrs if your water broke?

With your history of labor not starting until after it's been augmented, I'd say it's likely safe, but you never know & every labor is different. I think you'd be fine but I'd definitely be bringing a birth kit along with some emergency blankets & a cell phone in case you wind up delivering roadside.

I'd risk it, but then my water has broken twice with a major wait before anything exciting happened...5 hours is pretty stinkin' long. If I were you, with your shorter labors, I wouldn't do it. Not unless you want to deliver baby in the car - it would NOT be a fun ride.

I'd definitely leave right after your water breaks since you're so far from your OB and hospital. However, if nothing has started by the time you arrive, you can always find a shopping center or something to walk around in until labor actually starts if you want to wait and see what happens without medical augmentation.
