December 200 items decluttering challenge... - Page 5

I'm joining quite a bit late, but here I am. I joined the 500 group too for extra motivation. I already got rid of 52 items of clothing! How's that for a start?
Just took a very quick run-through in the kitchen as I was taking trash outside to be picked up. So 10 more items, plus two very big boxes that have been sitting in the basement.

If ds cooperates today I may play a game to see how much else I can get out the door before the trash truck comes today. I never know what time it is going to come, so it's a kind of fun game.

Got rid of 5 more things last night. I know it's not much, but I'm organizing as I go and my house is finally starting to actually look less clutered. Hurray! So:

I'm almost there! I really do need to go through my junk drawers.
I don't know why, but even though ds's room is the most organized room in the house, I tend to keep working on decluttering it. Maybe because he grows out of things so quickly, plus he isn't attached to things like dh is (so he won't complain). So I went through his room again and found 26 items to toss and the following to give away: sling, 4 blankets, diaper bag, travel wipes containter, wet bag. I'll add to the list a pack-n-play that we're passing on, too.

I also was going through the Christmas box last night and got rid of 5 things (including the box, which ds and I broke when I was pushing it around the living room with him in it).

I have been on a rampage this week, and man do I feel good. I cleaned out our basement, and came away with FOUR huge outdoor type trash cans full of trash. (Most of it was stuff that was here when we moved in, including four mops...who on earth needs four mops?)

Stuff I've Given to Vinnie's So Far:

two crib sheets
four baby blankets
about 18 tons of clothes DD has outgrown
several movies
giraffe statue
border collie statue
Russian spoon
Brass ducks
DH's "adult collectible" toy motorcycles
four banana boxes full of books
four huge giant picture frames
a baby swing
a Johnny Jump Up
a Pack 'n Play (Who on earth decided that those things are portable? They weigh a ton!)
black trash can
2 plastic vases
2 baskets
a towel with cat eyes on it that always sort of scared DS

On the porch to go to Vinnie's as soon as they're open again:
a gray trash can
a bunch of bibs
a giraffe mug
a lamp
a huge bag of tiny toys
two obnoxious, noisy plastic puzzles
a service bell (???)
a twisty drum
an old afghan
five sheets and two pillowcases

In a box, ready to go to the P.O. and shipped off to SIL & BIL
25 cookbooks
a pair of Carhart insulated overalls

In the garage waiting for trash day:
a broken high chair
an ugly, smelly blue office chair
two huge, old ugly chair cushions
eight hideous, huge curtain rods

Ad Placed in "To Give Away" section of local paper:
antique sewing machine
antique radio

Listed on eBay:
four never used waterproof pads
a brand new set of sheets
a never used Chinese caligraphy set
a never used microscope

I hate the holiday for slowing my purging! To quote Vixenmama, FLING, FLING, FLING!

In a mad Christmas Eve rush, I went through some stuff in the bedroom and got rid of 29 more items. Most of it was trash, but I am giving a few things away.

If feels good to get rid of stuff before all that new stuff comes in tomorrow!

argh! Christmas seriously put a damper on the decluttering around here...every present that came through the door had me thinking of what i could get rid of to balance it out. At least i've put away most stuff, trashed and recycled what wrapping i could, and started to box up some of DD's toys to be stored in the attic for a while....also listed some stuff on FSOT this morning...so no new tally, but i've started to get organized anyway...

Serious, serious decluttering happening here.....we have two laundry baskets full of stuff waiting to be boxed for donating. Toys, clothes...oh, and a full box of books as well. More to come!

just called the thrift shop and they will be open Thursday so I can finally get rid of a bunch of boxes i've had sitting around for months! yay!

The holidays are slowing me down, ladies!

DH cleared out my sewing/craft/scrapbooking room (you can see the floor now!) so I can organize it and get rid of more excessive stuff... I'm thinking I may not get to 200 this month, but I plan to get rid of at least 500 things by the end of February. This month was just to busy to plan a project like this!!! Not to say I've given up, just that I need to either focus or extend my deadline to be more realistic for me.

I got rid of about 20 more things. Cleaned out my purse where I stash tons of stuff and got rid of the garbage in there. Quarter way cleaned out one of my three junk drawers (yes three!).

I know a lot of people get more clutter during the holidays, but since we celebrated at our house, the presents that are now gone make the room look tons bigger! I kinda can't wait til the tree is gone. It's crowded in my living room!

I better kick it up! The month is almost over!

Wahoo! I just went through all of my make up and got rid of 3/4 of it. Most of it was bought 4 years ago and it's just not my style anymore - plus I feel icked out at how old it is. I was maybe going to keep a few lipsticks until I put them on and was revolted at the smell of petroleum in them. So, I got rid of 34 items just from make up!

I also have 56 items in my donation box that are all going out the door within the next few days :-D I'm on a roll and I know of so many more things I want to get rid of.

90/200! I'm hoping to have 200 by dec 31st.
i just took about 10 (some smaller than others, but still 10!) boxes to the thrift store! It was stuff that was packed up months ago, but still sitting in our office/computer room....at leat 100 items. So, I'm up to 161/200! Yippee! Now just have to get some boxes up to the attic and install a few shelves and that room will be liveable for the first time since we moved in 1.5 years ago. I'll have to post pics when it's done!

Alright, I got in gear a teensy bit last night and got rid of 20 more things (they're in a bag by the door and I'm taking them to the thrift store tonight!)

I dug through my makeup that I never use (hopefully I can convince myself to get rid of more of it soon!), I went through my kitchen again and got rid of bottles that don't have any nipples, I went through the babies stuff and grabbed out a couple of his blankets. I'm having a really hard time with stuffed animals. Part of me wants to get rid of all of them, but then I look at them and think- 'well so and so got him this one, we can't get rid of this one!' Sheesh.

I haven't read all these posts : but I'm jumping in on the decluttering bandwagon. I'm going to start RIGHT NOW. I am tired of all this clutter that doesn't enrich our lives in any way, and leads to constant frustration. I'm so excited to get it out of here.

So how do you count items? Do old magazines count?

How about new junk mail that you toss as soon as it comes in? Does it get to count, or just things that have had a presence in your home for awhile?

I don't count things that are garbage... ie: mail, things you should have thrown away prior to decluttering (things that are obviously garbage and serve no purpose).
