Possible induction on Thursday

Hi all -

Just got back from the doctor and wanted to vent a little about what is going on. I haven't posted here much, but I am now 41 weeks 2 days and am feeling a little down.

As of today, I have no dialation and my cervix is still long, though they say it is soft. I have not seen any mucous or bloody show (though I know not everyone sees it). They are sending me to L & D tonight for an NST, and if everything is ok with baby, they are going to ripen my cervix with some gel. They'll check me tomorrow, and ripen me some more if needed. If this doesn't kick start labor, then I will be induced on Thursday.

I am ok with the induction, though it is far from what I had hoped my son's birth to be. I am hoping this "ripening" will bring labor on and induction won't be needed, but I am also happy to know that he will be in my arms by the weekend. But I am scared...I'm afraid he has been needing to come out and my body has been remiss in it's duties. They said that perhaps he hasn't been able to descend into my pelvis properly so hasn't been able to stimulate my cervix. Every wiggle from him tells me he's doing ok, which makes me all that more anxious to have him out and with us.

Has anyone here had any experience with this "ripening"? This is my first baby.

Sorry I can't relate as I had a natural delivery and went into labor on my own. But I remember being stressed as I was also scheduled for induction on the Friday but went into labor on the Tues. so I didnt hafta worry about going in for induction.

LABOR VIBES TO YOU!!!!!!
Goodluck.

Good luck to you, I know how scary an induction and the possiblity of induction can be. I have had very good luck with sweeping of the membranes to kick start labor, but this does not work for everyone and you have to be somewhat dilated. I had my membranes swept at 42 wks 1 day (last Tues.) by Wed. I had lots of bloody show and labor started that day at 3pm. I was about 2cm when she was able to do the sweep. I have also heard that acupuncture works well for some women, but it has never seemed to do much for me. Hope all goes well for you.

Hi - I'm waiting with you for my Nov. baby too. I had the cervical gel with #1 to ripen me before my induction the next day (for pre-e). I was only 38 weeks, so much earlier than you are now. It wasn't bad - I had to lay there for a while in hosp. after it was applied, but then got to go home, and felt off and on crampy for a few hours (period like cramps, not really labory cramps) and then the cramps went away. I dilated 1cm (from zero) just from the gel and had a full pitocin induction the next day. Remember to wear a pantyliner - the stuff they used on me was blue colored and stained my undies on the ride home.

Maybe the gel will be enough to kick you off on your own, being as you are further along. I wish you well - my time is up tomorrow (42 weeks) and I am getting induced.

Thanks for all your well wishes ladies!

I just got back from the hospital. They baby did well with the NST and they inserted the ripening stuff (not a gel, but a little tablet...I forget what it's called). I had to wait there 3 hours after the drug while they monitored the baby. I started contracting pretty much immediately, and they baby handled it like a champ. Anywhere from 3-7 minutes apart, and pretty strong. They said this might happen, so not to get my hopes up. Well, after the 3 hours of contractions they wanted to check me to see if I may be dialated...NOTHING. Still closed up tight...very frustrating. The nurses/doctors there were great and told me not to fret, but I can't help but be disappointed that all that action didn't manage to make a change. Tomorrow is another round, but hopefully tonight baby will decide it's time? Hope so. I'll let you know how it goes.

My water broke, yay!!!

Lots of fluid and the elusive mucous plug I've been looking for, all at once. Contracting and trying to get it all together for the hospital. Doctor wants me to go in for a check, but may send us home if it's moving slow. Wish us luck.

I AM SO HAPPY, no iduction (fingers crossed)!!

Thank you all for your wishes and kind thoughts...

Samuel Frederic was born Wednesday 12/6 at 3:02AM. 9 lbs 10oz, 23 inches long, a gorgeous full head of hair and looking just like his papa (who is my new hero... )

We arrived home from the hospital yesterday and I am healing from an unplanned c-section. Though not what I had envisioned, Sam's arrival was the most amazing moment of my life...wouldn't change a thing! I will do a more detailed post in a few days, but currently are enjoying finally being home and hanging out with the new love of my life.

Burlington Mamas, he is anxious to meet you all and your little men! Can't wait.
